it was a long weekend, gabriel’s kids were either out late or sleeping over at a friend’s house, meredith was up to god knows what and gabriel sat home alone. but despite the late hour, 2:30 am last time he had checked, gabriel was still working. eyes focused intensely on the computer screen in front of him and his hands darting in quick movements across the keyboard, the startling sound of the doorbell ringing throughout the house was enough to abruptly make him still all his movements. on edge but also taking caution, gabriel slowly stood up and made his way down the foyer. carefully, he swung the front door open and was surprised to see a young, red-haired woman on the other side. “ .. ms. jackson.. ” gabriel greeted hesitantly, his brows knitted together in an expression that was a hybrid between concern and confusion. “ whatever you’re here for.. my home was not a good choice to discuss it, ” it was a warning, but he widened the entrance anyways, taking a step aside to let her in. “ you’re lucky there’s no one else home tonight, ” he muttered as he closed the door behind her, eyes glancing up and down the street to check for possible witneses. “ your mother seems like the type to run a pretty tight ship, isn’t it past your bed time ? ” gabriel raised an eyebrow at the girl challengingly. they both knew, full well that whatever woman he was referring to was in fact, not adriana’s mother and that whatever was going on in the jackson household, was less than the picture-perfect family they portrayed. but then again, neither was his.
