AdvaMed Commends March 2017 House Reconciliation Legislation
An accomplished senior executive, Stephen C. McEvoy holds a juris doctor from Columbia Law School and a master of business administration from Duke University. Currently residing in Belmont, Massachusetts, he serves as vice president, general counsel, and assistant secretary at Abiomed, Inc., in the nearby city of Danvers. Stephen C. McEvoy of Belmont concurrently sits on the legal committee of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed). A medical technology trade association with headquarters in Washington, DC, AdvaMed promotes ethical industry standards and easy patient access to effective healthcare products. The organization also advocates on behalf of public economic policies that promise to boost value creation in the medical technology sector. On March 7, 2017, AdvaMed and its president/CEO Scott Whitaker released a statement that praised recent reconciliation legislation in the US House of Representatives. Introduced by the House Ways and Means Committee, this legislation seeks to permanently repeal the medical device excise tax. AdvaMed contends that the repeal of this tax will create job growth as well as innovative research and development in the medical technology field, which could lead to breakthroughs in the diagnosis and treatment of multiple medical conditions. According to US Commerce Department data, the induction and enforcement of the medical device excise tax coincided with a loss of almost 29,000 American jobs.
Awesome night at the Chicago Cubs spring training home Sloan Park Mesa with a national consortium of CEO's / Executive Directors in town for a AdvaMed conference. I got a chance to talk with an AZBio exec and I am excited for all the opportunity that Mesa has in the Medical and Biotechnology sector. Osborn School Board member Ylenia Aguilar joined us. It was cool to see Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane again also. Thank you to the City of Mesa Economic Development for setting this up. #iheartmesa #AzBio #AdvaMed (at Sloan Park Mesa)
