Maxie’s Advent 2017 - Day 4

Christmas isn’t just about food and gifts, it’s all about getting together! Who do your characters spend Christmas with?

In Maxie’s case, he spends his time with his life partner Matsu ( @redrocketwarrior‘s Sole ) and the people of Sanctuary. He has various festive activities planned, usually with putting decorations up or just retreating somewhere to cuddle.

In Everett’s case, he only really spends his time with his daughter Amanda. If he does include anyone else in his Christmas celebrations, they tend to be his close friends only.

Maxie’s Advent 2017 - Day 3

Christmas is all about food, glorious food! While there mightn’t be all the elements of a traditional Christmas dinner available, a good meal can still be had! What sort of food do your characters make at Christmas time?

In Maxie’s case, he starts some of his preparation before December. He begins by making kimchi, a traditional Korean dish, and setting it aside in sealed containers to ferment until the time comes around. For the main Christmas meal, he makes sure that there is plenty available, usually serving a main meat of radstag, with some radchicken and his specialty glazed Yao Guai ribs. Vegetables tend to vary although he does make sure that there’s a selection besides beets and tatos. For dessert he serves his take on a traditional Korean Christmas cake as well as his own variation on the more American Christmas pudding. His Christmas meals tend to be a fusion of American, Korean and other cultural Christmas foods.

In Maksim’s case, he prepares a lot of food. Something that he’s kept hold of since pre-war times. He sticks very closely to his Russian roots (or as close as he can). He prepares food over two days, serving both a Christmas eve meal and a Christmas day meal. On Christmas eve he prepares his version of sochivo or kutia, a type of porridge. After that, there is his take on borsch (beet soup), vegetable pies, a version of sauerkraut along with a few other dishes. This is finished with his take on vsvar (a sweet drink). On Christmas day he has prepared a feast. He’ll often serve lots of meat along with any leftovers from the Christmas eve meal. For dessert he makes fruit pies and his version of pryaniki (usually gingerbread bisuits).

Maxie’s Advent 2017 - Day 2

The festivities are underway but there’s one problem. What do you give to people in post-apocalyptia? What gifts do your characters typically give?

For Maxie, he gives practical gifts that serve a purpose. If he’s making a gift for a special someone, he will often tailor it completely to them, to their specific quirks and needs, along with making it last a long time.

For Maksim, he tends to give gifts of food. He leaves most of his gifting until the day, then presents his recipients each with a batch of kozulya, traditional Russian Christmas cookies. Or as close as he can get to them in this environment.

For Trunks, he tends not to give gifts often but he will gift specially crafted weapons to loyal members of his raider clan.

For Everett, he tends to give specially recorded holotapes containing a little message to those he’s close to.

Maxie’s Advent 2017 - Day 1

The festive season is approaching! The world had fallen to nuclear fire over 200 years ago but does that mean that Christmas is cancelled? Of course not! How do your characters prepare for the festive season?

In Maxie’s case, he’s already preparing before December even begins. He starts his prep around mid-November, drawing up various gift ideas and planning on the food he’s going to cook. By the time December rolls around he’s already putting up various decorations, some of which have been salvaged while others have been handcrafted out of various things he’s found lying around.He makes sure that Christmas in Sanctuary is always a wonderful time for everyone.

In Maksim’s case, his Christmas celebrations are very subdued in comparison. Christmas had been banned in Russia pre-war, and while his family did celebrate, they had to do so in secret lest they faced persecution. Now however, he plans for a small celebration but as close to his traditional Russian roots as possible, and he makes allowances for gifts for his close friends. He holds his festivities in Diamond City.

In Everett’s case, his Christmas celebrations are often just him, his adopted daughter and a few close friends. But on the business side of things, he decorates his shop up for the festive season and even offers Christmas discounts to those visiting.
