Hi! I really enjoyed the post about the SU theories. I had a thought, that maybe Blue Diamond won the second war? Maybe she blew it up with the shooting stars and left the earth for dead, not knowing of the main crystal gems' fusion and survival.
Thatd help explain the data stating no gems lived on earth and the ignoring of earth for so long. Maybe there was even a choice Rose made between saving humans and gems, which would explain the damaged gems and lapis’ hatred of the crystal gems
that’s certainly a possibility. even if Rose did defeat Blue Diamond on the planet’s surface, the gems that remained on the ship may have decided to “ensure” the crystal gems’ destruction by firing off an indiscriminate barrage of shooting stars before they left the solar system. especially if Rose defeated both White Diamond/the original occupation forces and Blue Diamond conventionally. why resort to such overkill otherwise? orbital bombardment seems like a last resort–but that doesn’t mean that Blue Diamond couldn’t have gotten away? for all we know, she could very well be back on Homeworld with Yellow Diamond too–though I have to wonder why Lapis was handed over to yellow diamond faction gems like Jasper and Peridot instead of other blue diamond faction gems, if that was the case
Kindergartens create/“cook” new gems at the expense of a planet’s native life–probably by leeching the earth of its natural resources that are essential to the perpetuation of life. the area surrounding Earth’s Kindergarten in “On the Run” was still utterly barren and desolate ~5000 years post-Kindergarten shutdown. all of which is to say–maybe Earth was so valuable to Homeworld because of its abundance of organic life and life-sustaining natural resources; maybe that abundance makes for better quality or higher quantity of Kindergarten gems. so if the surviving members of Blue Diamond’s retinue believed that their orbital bombardment had damaged Earth to such a serious extent, then the 5000+ years that Homeworld gems stayed away could have been a sort of grace period to allow Earth’s native life/life-sustaining natural resources to replenish themselves so its Kindergarten’s yield would be of higher quality and quantity.
I’m not sure if Rose would have chosen to leave anyone to die, especially if they were her friends and comrades, but if all of humanity/life on Earth was at stake and saving them meant prioritizing them over the other gems present–then maybe…? there are other gems out in the universe; life on Earth only exists on Earth, because it’s so young. if it was between the total extinction of several unique species versus the sacrifice of several gems, then I can see the crystal gems choosing Earth again. that’d certainly explain why the temple was constructed in the five crystal gems’ fusion’s visage: she was a planetary guardian that shielded Earth from a great cataclysm.
but I don’t think Rose would have chosen to sacrifice them; if they did sacrifice themselves, then I’d think that they would have chosen to lay down their lives individually, and that even if they made that choice, Rose would have tried everything she could to save everyone. it could be that most if not all of the other crystal gems had already been destroyed by Blue Diamond or the first attacks. maybe some even survived the second gem crisis, but were damaged, destroyed, or corrupted somehow during those 5000 years before the series started….
either way, great point, and thank you for being so patient in waiting for my reply!
