The video above is an example of a promotional video from a public engagement event.
To create a video you need to think about what you are trying to achieve - do you just want to create a buzz around your event? Are you being mysterious? Or are you trying to advertise when it is happening?
One you have decided you now need to come up with an idea. Then you can break it down into scenes and think about costumes, sets, actors, props. No doubt you will have a budget in mind- what can you realistically achieve? Once you have a solid idea and all the scenes planned out you should be ready to film. Then all you do is have to edit!
If you need to rent equipment The Creative Media Suite may be able to help you. Visit: http://www.shef.ac.uk/cics/creativemedia/equipment
Once you have the finished product you need to circulate it. Put it on youtube, link to twitter, facebook etc. Are you advertising to students? Can you get it on the screens in the union? Be creative!
