"It Β is Β our Β fate, Β I Β think, Β to Β crave Β always Β what Β is Β given Β to Β another. Β If Β one Β possesses Β a Β thing, Β the Β other Β will Β take Β it Β away." for @aeghon, with love. β‘
β no one sent for me, brother. i wanted to get the measure of you, in person. it is much harder to fight a faceless enemy than one you know, β daenerys spoke so casually, after she and her brother had both descended from their dragons. she was, truthfully, most curious to see what aegon looked like. curiosity is what drove her to arrange this meeting, and to ride out alone on drogon. her dragon was twice the size of her brother's, and so, she saw no threat meeting him.
here he was, the usurper king, and he was no more than a boy. there was less of a difference between daenerys and aegon in age than the rightful queen, rhaenyra, but he was still so young. she could see it in his eyes. she wondered, if he looked like their father. all she has is the words of others. β though i wish we met not as enemies, but as brother and sister. tell me, brother: why are you so eager to slay your own kin? β she took a step forward. drogon made a discontent noise. he didn't seem to trust aegon, but he was in a mood since their arrivel in westeros. it seemed he didn't trust this land in the slightest.
daenerys looked up at her son, reaching up to brush her fingers across his scales as he lowered his great head towards her. she smiled. β his name is drogon. i ride him, but i am bonded to two others. they're not far. β and indeed, as she looked up, almost as if on cue, two dragons were heard screeching above them, circling ahead. β i do not wish to harm you, nor any of our kin. but brother, if it comes to war, you will not win. so tell me: is it worth it? the queen might forgive you. you are a boy. there is still time for peace. for family. β perhaps, she was being foolish. but, she had to try...
daenerys had spent too many years alone. a targaryen alone in the world is a terrible, terrible thing. she would not forgive herself if she did not do everything in her power to save all of her siblings' lives.
Sorta plotted starter for @aeghon
Aemond couldn't say he didn't earn his imprisonment, if they were at times of peace, but this wasn't the case. They were at war, and the ones in power were not fit to lead them anywhere close to victory.
He merely did what was necessary. A shame he didn't do it right, though. After all, there was Aegon back to the Iron Throne instead of being dead or completely disabled.
Aemond didn't really expected to see his brother ever again, he thought Aegon would have him executed without even looking him in the eye, so he let out a surprised hum as the King was standing before him.
"I see you are recovering well." His tone doesn't contain irony or relief, it was simply a statement.
a starter for @aeghon from Asteria
It had come to her in a dream many moons before. A silver-haired monarch - who would be a key figure in the greatest war to come - would step into fire and would emerge gloriously, enveloped by a the very beast with embers in its lungs. Word of a foreign battle had reached Braavos and Asteria was quick to follow the Lord to Westeros.
The Seven looked down on her as heels clicked on the stone floors of the Red Keep. It left the priestess unbothered - a confident air eluding from her, for the Lord was guiding her and no fake god was going to stand between her and her destination. Nor would a king's guard; these young men were easily persuaded, after all.
She found herself at the King's bed, looming beside him like a red shadow. His burns were mostly covered by bandaging - fresh due to a maester's hard work, she presumed. Gentle fingers started to unburden him from his coverage; baring his wounds to the freshness of air. Maesters were skilled, yet they did not know the ways of fire like the red priests of Essos did. The King was young and beautifully kissed by the Lord. A true blessing, really; the pain only another challenge to overcome.
An elegant bottle safely tucked away in her dress was retreated eagerly. The ointment inside would relief the deep, burning itch that would surely continue to haunt the King for many days to come.
"Your Grace-" she mused, a soft smile playing on foreign lips. "I travelled all the way from the City of Braavos once word reached me." she explained, keeping her eyes on his. "To bring relief and enlightenment."
β° βΎ β Β βΈ» @aeghon uttered "No one is now what they were before the war."
ππ ππ ππππ, to avoid those one does not wish to see within the Red Keep. It is a large, dark place, at times more labyrinth than it has ever been house. All her life she has lived here, and there are still corridors she has never traversed within these walls. Now, she knows that she will die and still never know the entirety of these serpentine depths. That knowledge only brings her a little sorrow. Let there be some secrets in life she does not know, so she will not be burdened by those too.
This conviction does not stop from wishing to go wandering alone at night. To find, perhaps, the secret passages that only the rats and their catchers would know so well. It is a purely masochistic desire.
Helaena stares down at the white skin of her hands. There are red crescents left behind by her fingernails that she doesn't remember inflicting. Curious.
"Then what are we now, if not ourselves?" she asks Aegon. Asks herself. Asks the room and the empty place in her heart. She imagines herself emerging from a large cocoon, dewy and new. Shedding her outer-skin, her memory. "I have never wanted to not be myself so badly before."
@aeghon , a little collection of headcanons.
re: our upcoming bird box in king's kanding au. it is speculated to be a bad omen following the crowning of king aegon that would explain the mass self-slaughter. that perhaps the wrong heir had claimed the throne. people quickly began to pick up that so long as one's eyes are shielded from the outside world, they can try to survive. but the commonfolk don't have the luxury of hiding behind castle doors and further blame the king and the royal family for being curse the way they've become.
as if navigating this chaotic new world with unseen beasts plaguing the people wasn't bad enough, there is infighting within the keep and angry people outside the walls willing to risk claiming their own lives to make right of what they believe had wronged them all.
criston remains loyal to his grace, trying to act as a voice of reason while he knows others aim to empower themselves during this time of crisis. he sees through those who are trying to make aegon look bad and who genuinely wishes to resolve the horrors going on in the realm.

( helaena saw it, she knows she saw it yet if you were to ask her what happened, details, she wouldn't be able to tell you. it was like she crawled inside herself, inside her mind, & distanced herself from the situation. blurred vision, body moving on its own to gather her daughter & flee. ) when daughter in her arms, with body on autopilot, helaena found herself running toward the throne room. toward echoing laughter. palm shoving the door open with all of her might, nearly tripping down the stairs, & forward. forward toward a familiar face. breath is laboured as feet halt, body sitting on the floor before the iron throne. jaehaera is cradled close to her body, hand on the back of her head. β they killed the boy. β she says.
