She did not expect that kind of healing coming from the man who saved her. He expected him to be more of a soldier. Especially given the reactions of those who had been harassing her. But after her admitting to have a few scratches, some sort of power…some sort of magic surrounded her. Although she was a bit hesitant to let it interfere with her, it felt nice. Not only the healing spell around her, but also being cared of. She sat there silently waiting for him to finish and merely enjoying the fact of observing him.

Byleth’s explanation of what that place was confused Nunnally. Then probably she should not have been there. He should not have taken her there.

“I…I don’t think I should be here…I…I could only bring troubles to you and that is not how I would like to repay for your kindness.” – she stated seriously, but did not add any explanation of why something like that might be happening.

She was trying to force herself to stand up and leave, but she did not move. Truth to be told, Nunnally enjoyed the company of the man in front of. He was not too talkative, perhaps many would not call him friendly, but Byleth made her feel safe. After all, she did not have a place to go. Now when she thought about it, she did not know how she ended up there and how. She was trying to find an excuse to stay, to ask him some questions, to keep the conversation going: --

Exploration was all well and good, in moderation. Temenos, however, wasn’t exactly enthralled with the idea of a several-day-long hike with no particular destination. That sounded like far to much walking for something unlikely to bear any fruit.

And still, wander he had. Only, the area had stopped seeming at all familiar. He was fairly certain that he’d visited the towns that were supposed to be in this region, but they didn’t appear to be well... anywhere! He wasn’t sure exactly where “Riverford” was supposed to be, but he was definitely lost. Was this not precisely where Ku should found? Yet, instead of desert sands there were stone buildings. Were his navigational skills really so poor? How embarrassing. Best not let anyone else find that out.

He paused briefly, taking in the area around him, before deciding that he was indeed, completely and irrovocably, lost. At least, he was fairly certain, until something caught his attention. Or perhaps more precisely, someone. A familiar flash of purple in the crowd caught the Inquisitor’s keen eye, and he thought he recognized the silent gait. Could he have found a familiar face in such an unfamiliar place? Excellent! Slipping through the crowd, he began to follow what he thought to be a friend of his.

“ Pardon me. Just a moment. Yes, thank you. “ As he made his way through the people in the square, he moved to the side alleys rather than directly pursuing the thief in question. This approach had two motives. One, he didn’t want to draw attention, should this friend of his be practicing her usual trade. And assuming that to be the case, he’s certain she wouldn’t mind someone else drawing eyes. Then, he could catch up after.

It was a solid plan, with only one flaw. As he moved to reconvene with the thief in question, it was someone completely unfamiliar to him. That... Definitely wasn’t Throné. Yes, it was likely best to take this entire endeavor to the grave with him. His surprise only stopped him for a moment, however, before he approached regardless. “ Good evening. Might I have a moment of your time? “

He might as well still learn something.

An Unexpected Arrival

Damn, this was uncomfortable. A hand rose to subconsciously trace his mouth as he watched the foreign education. Or rather, only partially paid attention to it. His Majesty was concerned about Prince Noctis being out by himself, but nobody in the Crownsguard was ‘young’ enough to play the role of a guardian whilst the Prince was still attending school. Noctis had long since refused a detail of guards when he first began going to public school, wanting some semblance of normalcy. Squall could understand that, having grown up in an orphanage himself. ‘Normal’ was better than the alternative. But still, Drautos had called him ‘pretty enough to be a high school kid,’ and Squall wanted to punch him in the teeth. 

So here he was, more than against his will, back in school after he thought he’d finally escaped. Having a military education himself, this easy-going, civilian school was giving him the creeps. Where were the strategy sessions? The weapon schematics on the board? The practice pincer techniques? Nothing. Just some guy droning on about what a bunch of famous, dead kings did in the past. Being a civilian was more dangerous than he thought, if this was what they were learning. Pinching the bridge of his nose, his gaze wandered back to Noctis, looking down at the shorter man from where he sat. 

King Regis had to have a reason for sending him out to watch his back like this, in the most literal of senses. His Majesty knew Squall was nothing but a military dog, after all. If he didn’t expect a fight, he wouldn’t have sent someone like him. So his senses were on high alert, flashing from paying mild attention to the teacher, to memorizing the faces around him, to watching the prince’s six. It had only been less than a day, but he was already impatient.

A bell sounded, snapping him out of his vigilance. He jumped a little, unused to sounds like that meaning anything other than an enemy attack. Shoulders slumping as the initial defense slipped from him, he leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms over his broad chest. He wasn’t here to talk, and he knew the other students wouldn’t leave him be unless he acted like he did back when he was younger. So he put on that off-putting, dead expression on his face, raising his hackles to prevent anyone from interrupting what he was doing.
