owls aren't reliable messengers.
I’ve had the feeling this is going to be inevitable. Hence despite my belief system, I promised I’d be hellbent on receiving gifts this time of the year.
I have received your present and I think it’s well-thought. I am very relieved and glad as well. It hasn’t been long since we met but it seems that you know me this well already. I don’t if that’s you being perceptive or me being so easily transparent. I do hope it’s not the latter.
Excuse my rambling but I shall get to the point now and present to you my gift. This year has been utterly weird in more ways than one, for me personally. As an atheist, I shouldn’t be doing this but there’s also the fact that I can give a present whenever the hell I want and it just so happens that it fell on this specific time of the year.
Accompanied by this letter is something that I hope you might fancy. It’s a spyglass inspired by one of my favorite childhood novels A Series of Unfortunate Events. I own a few of them, some given to me by my father, others I purchased in various antique stores. This one I’m giving to you mostly because of the leather around its body which reminded me of you. You’re a traveller and I guess this object is only fitting.
Put it to good use. Well…I didn’t need to say that. I’m sure you will, just as I will fill my new journal with lovely words and adventures ( to the best of my ability of course ).
MUN NOTE: I have no words. I’m so happy you came back too. 2017 better not cockblock this long distance relationship of ours ; n ; You’re the bees knees. Keep floating my goat YAYUHH! ;p
Each new day brings new surprises, they say. Christmas evening brings Mi an especially pleasant one in the form of a burlap package, elegantly tied and put together. Few people she knows have such sensibilities, and the letter beside the gift identifies one such person: Seungjin, of course.
With equal delicateness, she sets the package down on her table to unwrap said spyglass. When the little item rolls with a gentle thud onto the smooth wood, a tiny gasp escapes her. Fascinating. She’s seen them in shops occasionally, but never stopped to pick one up for herself. Careful fingers close around its intricately mottled leather, test its weight---firm and satisfyingly substantial in her hand, as if its barrel stored many an adventure.
Needless to say, Mi is brimming with excitement to add to them. Grinning hard, she sits down with the spyglass, and holds it up to her face, squints through its lens at the magnified room around her, allows herself the full amusement of seeing the slightly distorted visage of her mini succulent at many times its normal size.
Not wanting to wait til the next work day to send Seungjin a thank you, she picks up the usual pen and paper to jot down a note, which she would later photograph and send to him via phone.
Seungjin-ah! I got your gift---I daresay you know ME too well!! This is so beautiful. It’s perfect. I bet if I looked through the window, I could see you right now. Kekeke, better watch out. You don’t have to worry at all---I’ll use it well and bring it with me everywhere, and if it happens to save my life at some point on an adventure (which it probably will, somehow), I’ll only have you to thank! And even though you don’t celebrate, Merry Christmas ♡
