I’m sorry I’m throwing things at you today, I just like sharing things and you’re adorable so…
Imagine Erik, the mutant revolutionary! Leading his people to victory and facing off against sentinels, taking down super villains and doing the right thing, but in all the wrong ways. Hunting Nazi’s, tracking down scientists, beating up the bad guys and being a gem of a human being.
Imagine what happens when he gets injured in his quest. When he gets shot down or incarcerated, deprived of his mutation or so gravely injured that he can’t be helped. Imagine the world thinking him dead. Imagine Charles thinking him dead, when for whatever reason he can no longer hear his old friend. When Cerebro can no longer detect that little magnetic hellion because of some outside interference.
Imagine Charles trying to hold it together when he tells the twins or when he tells Magda. Imagine the way his voice cracks when he has to say how very sorry he is, and Magda doesn’t believe him. She doesn’t believe him because she thinks she’d know if he were dead. She’d feel it in her bones, but god the idea makes her heart hurt.
“He can’t be dead Charles. You’ve got it wrong. He’s not a soldier. He’s…a little boy from Dusseldorf that likes treacle toffee and chess.” And she won’t listen to him, she just goes off and starts rage!baking and rage!cleaning because she needs to be busy and keep her mind off it, and Charles just swallows and lets her do it, before retreating back to his study so he can fall apart because hell, Erik was his best friend too.
I know I’ve been posting feelsy things, so I thought I’d come and make you feel better by letting you imagine the majesty that is Erik Lehnsherr finally getting to take his little girl to the beach. (We’ll pretend she didn’t die and he managed it okay? He can have nice daydreams damn it.) Just letting her toddle through the shallow water, and build sandcastles with him and go hunting for crabs. Maybe they’ll find shells to make Magda a necklace, or sneak off to get ice cream when she’s not looking - because Papa bear Erik is sneaky like that.
Erik lending Anya his hat and sunglasses so she doesn’t get burnt and slathering her in suncream, while forgetting he needs any himself. Coming home with a rosy tinge to his skin but being happy, because it was a good day and he got to spend time with his best girl.
