something so crazy about rhys’ whole identity being centred around his father (whether it’s aibram or bhaal) and his questline being called ‘the prodigal son’ but in the end the only ending in which he survives and is truly happy is when he forsakes both of his fathers to find forgiveness in his sister for leaving her all those years ago.

If Aerea had come back disfigured, but managed to live, what would Rhaena had done? How would she have reacted?

interesting! i think that, alongside her disappearance entirely, would've been her wake up and smell the roses moment in terms of their issues. everything that didn’t suit aerea would have taken a backseat for a time. i don’t really know if aerea would gravitate to her — allow her to care for her — though, or if she would want to be with alysanne and jaehaerys, given the reasons why she left in the first place. i know rhaena would take care of her, regardless of if she was disabled or not, but i don’t think that would have repaired their relationship or fixed any trauma, joint or individual, and so it wouldn’t have made her parenting much better. the cracks would have showed even if she could muster the effort to be functional for a longer term. i don’t think rhaena would be able to deny her a return to court, after the scare and everything that happened on dragonstone, as well as the access to many more maesters and healers. she’d want her to be happy. and i also don’t see rhaena being able to survive life in maegor’s holdfast for long, even for aerea, so if that’s the case all roads lead to harrenhal alone.
