But just because they're a family of unicorns, doesn't mean that there the family will always be born unicorns as some ponies' ancestors are either earth ponies or pegasus. That means that either your mother or father's side of the family must've had a pegasus ancestor.

His father was a pegasus :)

That said, his mother's side of the family was all-unicorn, exclusively unicorn, until VERY recently.

His aunt and uncle are none too pleased on society's development.
