There’s a pitch in her ears, and that’s the only thing she can recognize as real for now. The world feels numb, blurry. Too far away for her to reach with the tip of her hands and yet devastatingly near; suffocating. Too loud or too quiet for her to tolerate. And—oh, how did she even got there? The demon slayer in her demands to know, but her capacity to get near an answer is limited by the fact that even breathing is too much an effort, let alone trying to think at first.

—and perhaps, someone who isn’t she can’t help but wonder, she is not even here at all, perhaps this is a dream ( it feels like a dream, not a really nice one though ).

“What…” Talking becomes bearable only minutes after and it is then when memories start to rain down on her: the chasing, the rush. The moon upside and the fire in her lungs. The demon’s desperate grin and the brief second between its touch and the silence in her mind. Did she hit the ground from up there or got slammed against a tree? From her position, she cannot tell, but what she knows or at least imagines is that no matter the chain of events she is in no condition to stand up and continue with the job. Hell, from what she can bring herself to feel and recollect she is in a worse state that she wants to admit, and perhaps one that scares her with the harsh truth of her own mortality even. Yes, she is scared now, although she is not allowed to be. 

“...it’s going—to escape. ...please… just go……” No, the mission is more important. To save lives is more important and she doesn’t want to slow down the other like this. Not now, please, not now.
