The sound of laughter was heard and the quick and light footsteps of a young girl as she ran down he endless finely decorated halls of the mansion. She turned the corner and ran into her mom, hugging her legs as she did so while continuing to laugh. Suddenly a joyish boy voice spoke, asking her to quickly come and play as well. As the girl turned she saw the faces of the two little boys waiting for her and she happily hurried over. Grabbing them both by the hand to hurry away and go have fun. Although the other boy his expression was first surprised, she soon heard his laughter as well that sounded like bells in her ears. So merrily and carefree. They ran through the hallways and then into the sunlight as they entered the spacious backgarden. She let go of the boys their hands and ran onto the grass. But when she turned, with the delightful smile plastered on her face, they were gone.

Her limbs felt heavy. What was going on? She couldn’t remember. Her eyelids didn’t seem to want to open and her breathing was slow. Why was it all so tiring? It was annoying... Her eyes finally opened, at last with great effort. She took a moment to focus as it felt like she was spinning. And that was when she remembered, the bright light of the other vehicle that approached the car she was in, being driven to meet her father for something... What was it again? She had trouble remembering. It had hit the side of the car and effectively crushed part of the petite senior high school student her body. The thought caused for her whole body to ache, and she held her breath for a moment as the pain hit her hard. She couldn’t breathe, it hurt too much. She felt herself slipping out of concious again and her eyes rolled up, only to see her driver trying to get out of what was left of the car. The front seemed to have not been hit. How unlucky for her. And next to him the girl saw a man and woman run up to her, shouting at her as one of them was handling their phone. How annoying, why did these people have to be so loud? Right now... Right now, she just wanted to sleep... Aika’s eyes fell closed, all the noise blaring past her as she lost conciousness.

“Ironic.” Spoke the man, standing close to the main doors, his cold eyes observing the scene in front of him. “Sarcastic even.” His deep voice was echoing through the empty sacred catholic place, his hands down his grand black coat pockets making his shadow even wider through the candles flames. A few years passed since the last time the two of them met and yet, there was nothing more familiar than such atmosphere. The woman was standing in the middle, facing the Christ and so, Kou couldn’t help finding the situation quite hilarious : two rotten souls tainting the holy with their presences only. "Expiation and redemption. How can I not see the Mary Magdalene in you.” The comparaison was somehow subtle. The man kept walking in - perhaps focusing his attention on her was his own way to not care much about a place he wasn’t fond of. The doctor stood behind the young woman, stopping his progression, looking up as well. “Some said she never did anything wrong while I couldn’t help but only see the shameful sin through her eyes. Asking for forgiveness, aren’t we?“ A pause. A silence. “ You said you wanted to return the money. Don’t think of me as a fool thinking I never noticed you took it without asking, there was no surprise when I received your text yesterday, I just never thought it would take 4 years for the guilt to finally reach your little mind. Tell me then, Fumi. Why now?”

The woman was no believer and it was quite a sight to see indeed. People who knew her or even her family background would find this totally questionable; doubtful. And all they could utter for most would most likely a similar reaction as the young doctor held- mocking and disgust. But rather than reflecting for her actions and her decisions in life, she stood there questioning the existence of a Higher Being whilst mulling over the rocky road she had gone through in her life. Why does it have to be me? Why could others enjoy their lives carelessly while mine, mine could only be the total opposite? Fumi stared up the cross in the middle of the church, her mind blocking the sounds of the footsteps from behind. It was not that she did not hear, but she simply did not wish to and continued to busy herself with her anguishing thoughts. Her eyes empty with her lips parted, a sight that people could easily mistake for a religious woman praying for her life. Closer and closer. Louder and louder. His footsteps echoed through the empty hall until it came to a halt, and so was his voice which held much sarcasm in it. Finally, the woman turned around. “ Why, you ask? The reason is simple, it took me those four years to finally earn enough to pay for what I owe. ” A smirk danced on her red-painted lips, illuminating her pale smooth skin in this dark place where only a few little light could penetrate in. “I knew you would notice it then. I knew so well you’re not as stupid as the other guys who would be so easy to manipulate just with the little sight of skin and a little bit of touching here and there. ” She finally paused and moved towards the male a little, leaving just a few distance between them. Fumi then took out a white envelope from her shoulder bag and slapped it across his chest as he took it in his hand. “There you go, Doctor. You better go before you burn in here. I wouldn’t want to have to clean your ashes later on. ” A small laughter, a giggle, came out of her lips as she watched the male return her a stern look. “You haven’t change, have you?” Fumi’s right hand then reached out for his cheeks, caressing them with a light touch. “Still as handsome as ever, and yet, those eyes are just as dead, or worse. ”
