Okay, I have been having this conversation in circles with my friends and family for the past week, and now listening to the 42 playlist has made me curious of your answer….

If you could only listen to music from 3 artists/groups for the rest of your life, which would you choose and what factors would you consider in your choice?

oh my god i'm going to answer this and then think of it all fucking day

ok so practical interests first: it makes sense to pick artists that are prolific, for variety's sake, and artists who have careers ahead of them, for the new content, and obviously artists i can stand for long enough to listen to just them forever

it would help also if there was a lot of scholarship/writing about the music in question, because there's more to engage with outside of the music as well. and though i love dancey music that i'll forget in two months, they'd have to be the sort of artist with depth to their music whether lyrically or in some other way, like you'd be able to come back to it and notice something new. SO

i think i would say joni mitchell for the prolificness and the poeticness, and there's interesting reading to be done there as well. rihanna because i DO need something upbeat in my life and i also find her music to be so rewarding to come back to again and again, like i hear something new in anti every time i listen (also please girl give us more...). and haim because i could have them on repeat forever probably

not coincidentally i can sing along to all three of those artists. like if im not allowed to listen to anything else i'd better me making everyone sick of me humming umbrella under my breath HAHHA

Omg! That last ask about Lily and Dex reminded me of these scenes that had slipped my mind from the sixth year days:

Holy hell - I feel like I just ran a marathon with my heart rate staying so high through reading all of 40!!!! SO GOOD!! The plot was excellent and the pining moments omg. I think each chapter leaves me feeling MORE anxious for the next one. Omfg. You are trying to kill me.

I know the nonplussed discussion has officially closed but now my brain is so stuck on the idiosyncrasies of Canadian english because I swear there is no rhyme or reason to how or why we switch between British and American English… and like I don’t think we have much agreement on it either. And now my brain hurts and I am questioning all my assumptions so thanks all - Jen
