something so personal about how every time i read cathago delenda est in the actual roman history context I Will Think of Her Until the Day I Die and iykyk
sometimes i wish i could revise like the first 25 chapters of come together but ik that is the project that would kill me ded sooner than actually finishing it
hello hello it's book rec anon, thank you for your incredibly generous reply 🥲🌹🥲🌹 I'm gonna start with Tana French because I don't usually read mysteries, how exciting!! Also I should say, I'm just a dabbler in the worlds of Mr George R R and yet feel totally besotted with Flower & Thorn, soooo think on that eh. Maybe just maybe your skill transcends worlds, is all I'm saying.
HAHAAHA you’re too kind!
report back re tana, the likeness is one of my favorite books of all time!!!!
OVER YOU— a ct holidayish gift exchange fic for @possessingtheproperspirit // some sprinklings of angst + wedding guests + when you repress your feelings for long enough they tend to bubble up eventually / 18k words, rated M
Lily had been interested in someone it was safe to want, because he would not want her back, and then she would not have to consider what it meant to be more than interested, and rearrange the nice little building blocks of her life for someone who could well be a wrecking ball if he wished to.
oh please let me second the other anons/asks about flower & thorn, because i just reread it and it's occupying all my brain space ATM. i will patiently wait for an update forever, but PLS KNOW that i am feral about it. politely, but still feral.
WHAT IS IN THE AIR?!
thank you though, you're so sweet. and your comments are so sweet!!! here is where i wish i could include a snippet or something for your trouble, however i am empty handed. so... sorry for that LOL
I love Flower & Thorn so much it drives me mad everytime I reread. The new chapter was total agonising delight. I had a weird question, reading the latest chapter and mourning the loss of being in your words the closer I got to the end - are there any books that you love that are similar to your writing? I need like a Suze-adjacent rec list to tide me over. Or if any of your followers can recommend anything. Sorry strange question, truthfully nothing would compare to your stuff anyway so it's a bit of a hopeless ask I realise! 🌹🌹🌹🌹
this is SO flattering! i can certainly recommend some books by authors i love and admire and aspire to. not all of them are the flower & thorn vibe or that kind of fantasy, but i stand by them as recs and hope you love them as much as i do.
ur-texts for me that unfortunately/fortunately are foundational to my taste but not necessarily "similar" to my writing:
austen bc OBVIOUSLY
diana wynne jones — howl's moving castle is the obvious one but also she's a genius and if i could read just her my whole life i'd probably be happy
anything holly black but especially her older books and especially the curseworkers. i love how her magic always has consequences.
the old kingdom series by garth nix. another unmatched magic system and honestly some deeply jily coded turns of phrase in the (relatively lowkey) romantic plotlines
good old maggie stiefvater but particularly the scorpio races and the raven boys (obviously... i mean, the marauders comparisons are so plain it's laughable...)
a song of ice and fire which presumably you are amenable to dabbling in if you've read flower and thorn lol which is such a funny thing to say. if you liked coughing baby you would love hydrogen bomb.
tana french is a master of suspense yes but it actually can't be overstated how gorgeous and needle precise her prose is. i don't know that i would call it flowery but it does what i always aim to do, which is to cut right to the core of a feeling
hilary mantel's wolf hall books. nothing to say here except i wish i could tattoo them on the insides of my eyelids.
a bunch of suze recs that i love and you might enjoy if you like my tone/spirit/vibe ?? of writing:
if you could see the sun by ann liang
the raven scholar by antonia hodgson
the emily wilde series by heather fawcett
troubled waters by sharon shinn (deep cut)
thank you for listening by julia whelan
tidespeaker by sadie turner
half a soul by olivia atwater
the dark days club by alison goodman
a declaration of the rights of magicians by hg parry
spinning silver by naomi novik
jonathan strange and mr norrell by susanna clarke
seraphina by rachel hartman
the unselected journals of emma m lion by beth brower
the nonesuch by georgette heyer
a lady's guide to fortune hunting by sophie irwin
the code of the woosters by pg wodehouse
as a bonus, two books that aren't yet out but i was lucky enough to read early:
just stayed up reading flower and thorn because it was just too good, best fic everr!! do you have any idea when you’ll have the next chapter ready because I NEED IT haha
ok genuinely my first instinct was SUSPICION because i've gotten a couple of f+t asks in a row and part of me is deeply sceptical of the concept of multiple people who aren't me being invested in this au LOL
that aside
i'm pretty sure i know the central event of the next chapter (it is NOT the wedding believe it or not) and the key (KEY!) relationship beat that will take place, i just have to make sure it sets up the right domino effect. i do have to change the chapter count on this bc i think it has to be 6 lol i added an extra beat in my ONE POINT FIVE YEARS of daydreaming/plotting. which is all more information than you asked for. and i can't give you the actual information you asked for because i don't actually know when the next chapter will be ready as unfortunately i have written 0 words of it even though i have written a lot of it in my mind lol.
but like all things... soon i hope? the good thing about this fic is i can jumpstart my enthusiasm for it all over again by just rereading asoiaf which i'm due for this year.
anyway if it helps im 99% sure the next chapter will earn the rating
