I am going to get a second Bachelor's degree, but I'm nervous about the concept of completing an entire undergraduate degree in 2 years. Is applying as an as an affiliated student my only option? :( The two degrees are completely different.

Hello - sorry it’s taken me so long to get to this! So I can’t say I know very much about applying for a second undergraduate degree, but from what I can tell, you don’t have to apply as an affiliated student, as it says HERE that you only do so if you wish to do the degree in a year less than normal. It’s probably a good idea to email the college you’re interested in and ask.

But overall, if you do have to apply as an affiliated student, don’t panic! You generally start at the beginning of Year 2, and (though this does depend on the degree slightly) a lot of courses are organised so that it’s quite easy to come in in second year even if you have a limited background in that field. It has to do with the way the degree is structured in terms of ‘parts’ - you should technically be able to do a different subject each year and still be okay (although of course, this doesn’t happen often in practice, but it is technically).

Hi, I was wondering how many affiliated BA students are usually accepted in an academic year by any college? And how difficult is adjusting to life at cambridge for them?

Sorry, I don’t really know much about affiliated students! Considering I never met one at Cam, my guess would be they hang out mostly with the grads/MCR side of things. And they unfortunately aren’t separated out on the admissions statistics so I don’t know numbers really. Kings says they accept around 2-3 a year, Downing says 2. Those are both medium colleges so I’d guess smaller ones take like 1, and places like Trinity probably take ~5. It’s my impression that most affiliated students are internationals but that’s just an impression, I don’t really have anything to back that up with. 

Any helpful experts have anything to add?
