Christie’s Affinity Mission
Read under the cut for more details. Post game spoiler for Xenoblade X. Please note that I used Alayna as Cross so you can use your own cross for your own interpretation.
During a mission to gather some materials from a broken White Whale debris left over after the activation of the lifehold, Christie started having some rather disturbing inner thoughts. Some started noticing her muttering to herself quietly while mission briefings were occurring or during mid missions when they were walking to their objectives. When asked if she is alright and isn’t feeling well, she denies all these claims and keeps it within herself.
One day, Alayna noticed a mission posting that claims that Christie needs some help for a mission. Alayna could not believe her idol was asking for once and didn’t hesitate to volunteer to help her out. As she met Christie, she briefed to Alayna about the mission briefings about how they have to gather some scraps for a certain experiment that’s needed for research purpose. Although the briefings went smoothly, Alayna noticed her voice tone wasn’t right but didn’t say anything or brought up about it.
Once the materials were gathered back to the research lab Christie’s mind started to drift a bit. Unable to focus on the current task, she starts looking away and notices someone.
Christie keeps seeing Lao as if he was still there in physical form. All while still walking around in NLA. She keeps muttering “Lao” almost like a lost child seeing something that is clearly not there.
Alayna definitely notices something is up and nudges Christie about it. She then tells her that Lao isn’t here and asked “What’s going on?” Is she having bad dreams again? Christie finally coming to her senses and requests Alayna to meet her at the heliport area so she can finally tell her story.
Back to her senses, Christie told Alayna everything. How during her mission in Oblivia where she was injured during battle and Lao helped carry her to safety all the way to the mimeosome center. She felt really grateful for him that she felt she had to give him back as much as possible. She admitted it did felt awkward at first as she kept having thoughts about him as she learned about his past and how much he has psychologically gone through during his time in Mira. She wanted to do anything to help him as much as possible and regrets her decision of not confessing to him during the time she finally got a one to one time together near the blade tower balcony.
Tears starting coming out of her though as she finally got a chance to express how much she felt during those dark events that occurred soon after. As she learned Lao betrayed the entire BLADE organization, she felt she was taken advantage of since she requested him to be with her during her early days of her BLADE duties. She didn’t know what to do at the time and felt emotionally distraught about the whole ordeal. Not to mention how she witnessed him becoming a monster really struck an arrow towards her heavy heart.
She finally comes out admitting in embarrassment that she had a huge crush on him and really wanted to confess her feeling towards him. Although it’s already too late for that, she kind of started feeling a lot better now.
Alayna patiently listening to the story, admitted she had no idea how much Lao meant to Christie but was really glad that she let it all out because she never knew about how much she had gone through after all this time. She then tells Christie not to worry and that she has made friends with others over the time that she has been with BLADE and that they will continously support her. No matter the dark times that come ahead of them.
Christie finally relieved that she was able to let it all out at once. Embarassed by the whole ordeal and how people were seeing her acting all strange, telling her story actually helped relieve her stress. Although she never got to be with the person she felt she wanted to be with forever and help that special person as much as possible, she had fostered a great number of relationships with others all willing to support her in the end. She has friends that she can rely on and will also not stop to help others in need. Ever since then, Christie hasn't seen a ghostly resemblance of Lao walking around the city and remains focused on her act and duties.
