This week Bob and his big sis, Jackie, discussed some of their favourite flicks as kids. Namely, Empire Records. . . Part of that involved talking about the 90's myth of the record store as the ultimate bastion of cool, rivalled only by the video store, which was really its equal. We discussed what made Empire Records so astounding as this hyper-reality, this otherworldly place that never really existed, and now exists almost exclusively in an oral tradition. . . Warren, then, represents us all; the outsiders, the civilians. The people who looked in, noses pressed against cold glass, essentially creating the myth that these humans who got to work at the Empire Records were some of the coolest people on the planet. . . It's a shame, then, that his name isn't f@*king Warren. . .
