Another sleepless night, so I made tonight crafting (and school and revue report work) night too. I braided some more alpaca, and then started on Nairi’s outfit. The top is completely sewn, the skirt is just basted in place (but this is exactly how it’ll look). The head scarf will need to be cut (now I just tied the whole rest of the fabric around) and have its edges hemmed, and then I’ll need to make her some jewelry to go with it. I originally thought it might become too colourful and patterned, but I think it suits her.
I’m also thinking that I’ll not make her a braided wig, and either make a short flocked one or a short curly one, so she can wear headscarves over instead. I think she looks just as good with it as braids, and as she’s supposed to be Nigerian it works well either way. If I stick with purely headscarves I’ll need to learn to tie a proper gele though... I’ve tried and failed so many times, but I should manage with practice.
(Terrible photos, I know. I’ll get good portraits when she’s completely done).
