I've been through your blog and seen a lot of posts that emphasise African history pre-colonialism. What do you think of the fact that a great many African tribes practiced slavery themselves and many sold their own people to Europeans. Moreover the last state to officially practice slavery (obviously many states nazi Germany and soviet Russia to name a couple did it illicitly) was Abyssinia, modern day Ethiopia?

As a sociology major, I take a great interest in pre-colonial metropolises, communities, societies, clans ect. I think slavery has been practiced at some point or another by all groups across the globe.  It’s a man made institution, and that it developed around the world for reasons specific to the nation that practiced it. The word ‘slave/slavery’ is a subjective word, there is no equivalent for ‘New World Slavery’ in the Pre-Colonial Africa except for the Arab Slave trade in East Africa *pointing to your last sentence about Ethiopia*.  If you have really been through my blog, you’d have an answer to your question without having to be rhetorical. This is more so a question to compare chattel slavery vs indentured slavery??!!! Or is your query merely a way to gather if I am aware and acknowledge that slavery has a long history in Africa?  Yes, I am aware of the different forms of slavery historically practiced by different African nations, debt slavery, criminal slavery (punishment for ones crime) military slavery/enslavement of war captives.  What exactly are you fishing for anon……

no i wouldn't say that. i mean, feel free to have any opinions about this whole blow-up as you want, but i'm talking about a specific group of asian americans. on tumblr and in my life. i would never say that it's obsolete at all. especially since there's people with identities that belong to both groups.

Me: Yeah, but your flawed and very basic logic seems to just dismiss the fact that the only people 'treated' like 'ignorant' persons are generally African descent/Black people. Ever thought about that?

Life in the garden of the Goddess was harmonious. After a few centuries without hunting or hunger, men began to get bored with farming. It occurred to them that it was a lot easier to steal your neighbor’s grain than it was to grow your own. Men began to organize standing, marching, marauding armies and to create hierarchical governments and bureaucratic infrastructures to support the troops. To the victors belonged the spoils, especially women. So when the going got tough the tough got going and soon men began to thrive in direct proportion to their ability to sustain a high testosterone level. The warriors were always the meanest and those who could most successfully suppress feelings, except of course feelings of superiority, and anger. The values of agricultural society were turned upside down. The ethic of cooperation was replaced by an ethic of conquest. The quest for harmony was replaced by the search for control. The realm of the sacred was no longer to be found in the nearby fields, rivers, and glades. Man developed patriarchal male gods who commanded them to stand above nature and society and woman. Rape in times of war became a habit. The rule of the warrior psyche was: Woman is a land to be conquered, possessed, and if necessary, humiliated. Now, centuries later, we continue to be inundated by the tragedy of warfare.

Wow. Really?  I'm constantly amused by the search terms that lead to my tumblr blog from 'certain' demographics. In case the screen capture is to small, the search term reads "penis african".  When I saw this, it reminded me of what a Veteran of the Armed Forces, as well as my father, told me about their time stationed in Germany in the 70's as a Black/African American soldier.  Both have vivid memories of being followed by curious German woman and sometimes men, after leaving a bar or club. It was confusing to them until they learned from another 'native' about the local 'superstition' that Black men grow tails after 'sundown'.  Even I was confused at first.  Then the connection was pointed out to me.....Black/African=monkey thus the tail of the 'so-called' monkey grows at night because it's hidden during the day.
