Afromosia hardwood is a species of hardwood native to the rainforests of Brazil. Its bark has alternating layers of color, dark and light browns with tan spots. The wood has an aroma similar to ebony in smell and appearance.=

This hardwood is commonly known as Brazilian Cherry and is widely used for flooring, cabinets, closets, bookshelves, headboards and even piano benches. The sapwood is generally lighter in color than the heartwood but it is not as weak or fragile as the sapwood.

Properties

It is often used for creating full-grain furniture due to its excellent resistance towards dents, scratches and wear. It has brown color variations and comes in different shades. The heartwood is usually exposed during harvest, while the other sections of the tree remain protected inside the hollowed out heartwood shell. The core or center portion of the hardwood consists of the sapwood, cane and other fine particles which provide resistance to wear and tear. The finish that Afromosia hardwood comes with is its distinctive reddish brown color variations which have been dyed to give it the durability and good looks that one can find in this type of hardwood.

Handles

The Afromosia hardwood comes with two handles which are flat at the bottom and has a rounded top. It is mostly used for making planks and also for making floors, cupboards, shelves and desks. One notable characteristic of this hardwood is that the grain patterns on the surface of the shafts are usually grooves which resemble those found in the stem of a rose. These grooves add a unique charm to the item. It can also be hand crafted to create a particular design.

The shafts of this great hardwood are cut straight and have a medium sized flat ferrule at the end which resembles that of a baseball handle. It can also be hand carved to create a unique design. The handle is usually made of oak wood and is held by a strong stainless steel plate.
