Laolu: Making Caricature of Life!
Laolu: Making Caricature of Life!
This is to pay homage to my friend who is fast becoming a god!
I knew Olaolu Senbanjo from juniour secondary school. We were of similar height and stature so we sat side by side in the front row of the classroom. We would draw cartoons and make caricatures of our teachers and classmates. He was the one with the visual artistic talent but he can be infectious so I find myself also making efforts…

Some of you may have recovered this bold artist thanks to the last video of Beyonce. Others may have heard of him thanks to Nike, the famous brand that employs him as one of their priceless designer. No doubt, Africa is everywhere! …
Without further delay, let me introduce you to Sir. Laolu Senbanjo !
Born and raised in Ilorin, Nigeria.
He was a lawyer for a while, then his passion took over, more than he had expected it. His Art is called, Afromysterics, a term he coined in 2007, which meaning, “the mystery of the African throughts pattern”. As a Pioneer and Leader in the Afrofuturism movement he considers it his duty to keep creating and to continue to push boundaries. It transcends Art and it is also the expression of thoughts and mysteries into music, vocals, and sounds. He says : “All of my work is heavily influenced by my Yoruba heritage and often related to the environment I find myself in.” You will notice that feminist stuff, women and children are common themes in my work, that because of his secular job. As a Human Rights Lawyer in Nigeria he was impacted by the strength girls and women have shown him. “I weave stories throughout the lines and patterns in my works.” (Source: www.laolu.nyc)
“The Sacred Art of the Ori is a Spiritually Intimate Experience. It’s Cathartic for both me and my Muse. We Connect Our Minds, Bodies, and Souls on Higher Level. I paint their Spirit and Soul from that Connection. It Breathes Life into Us Both.” – Laolu

Credit: http://www.bellanaija.com Laolu took off early on the part to destiny. First, it was rocky, but he kept at it- one dream at a time. With a background in law, the young Nigerian artist started out as a human rights lawyer and a struggling visual creative in Nigeria. How does anyone combine legal practice with painting? For Laolu’s family, it was difficult to comprehend, they imagined that…
