I’m kind of missing my students today. I’ve known some of them for almost their entire HS education, and a few are graduating. Super smart, highly aware of their world and definitely motivated to challenge it. They’ve been through so much, I can’t imagine how I would’ve handled living through a pandemic when I was their age. With all of the horrific events of the last few weeks (years), working with them keeps me grounded and hopeful. Hello. My name is Mateo Cordova. I am 14 years old, and I’m a Freshman in High School. My pronouns are He/Him. I am apart of the Audio Journalism program at After School Matters. ASM is a teen based program in Chicago, where teens get paid to do many programs from baking, drawing, skateboarding, etc. My biggest interests are in Fair Trade, 1960s African-American history, Immigrant rights, Sexism towards women, LGBT rights, etc. I am a mixed child, with my mom being white, and my dad is Mexican, and me and my sister are considered the first on my dads side to be born in America. I also enjoy Performance Arts, and am very interested in Global history.
