AFTGBB2k19 Round-Up

This year’s Big Bang fest was awesome to be a part of, with so many amazing fanfics and art pieces to come out of it!  I am beyond impressed by all of those who participated, and so, SO proud of everything you have done!  I look forward to next year!  :D  Here is the compilation of links to every piece submitted to this year’s fest! (Some artists did multiple pieces, so I will try to link each one individually. Sadly, some of the creators did not tag us, so we will simply tag their names!) Creating a new life as trucker Neil Josten, he finds a new home and family in his colleagues and quirky small town inhabitants, especially growing fond of the Foxhole Diner’s grumpy owner Andrew Minyard. But what happens if Andrew finds out about his past? Will Andrew really commit his life to the son of a serial killer with a toddler? Andrew Minyard never expected much of his life and found much more in David Wymack and his lot in Palmetto. His diner means working all day and meeting all kinds of people, but it’s his and he wouldn’t want it any different. Not as long as he can pay for his twin’s study. As one day Neil Josten stumbles into his diner for an interview for a job at Wymack’s transportation company, Andrew senses that his life will change in ways he’s never anticipated.

A.K.A. a dark au where most everyone is a supernatural creature, the mafia are immortals terrorizing pretty much everyone around them and, as usual, Neil’s attitude problem overpowers his survival instincts.

If this was how he was going to die, then he wasn’t going to go down easily. It was a man, the fisherman who had snared him, who’s mouth twisted into a satisfied smile as he took in Neil’s bloodied form. “Well well well, what do we have here?”

I’ve never fallen from quite this high (falling into your ocean eyes) - adaintywomanofmystery || @reneeisbuffjesus​ - Mature Andreil | ongoing Neil Josten just wants to live life before it’s over, but a homicidal father and an overbearing, over-protective mother don’t make that easy whether or not you’re still on the run. Andrew thinks that this year will be just as boring as the last in the small town of Palmetto. It turns out he couldn’t have been more wrong. There was a curse. There was a boy. And in the end, there was a grave. The worst part is he saw it coming, but he was still too late. Very loosely based on the first Beautiful Creatures book. Many liberties were taken!

Heaven We’re Already Here - minyxrd_03 || @nxah-czerny​ - not rated Andreil | 41k Neil’s overeager coworker, Nicky, has been nagging him about dating for as long as they’ve known each other. Constantly asking why he’s single and how ‘someone as good looking as him isn’t seeing anybody.’ On a night where he is particularly sick of this question - and possibly a little tipsy - Neil answers with the first name that comes to mind: Andrew Minyard, his neighbor. What Neil didn’t know until now is that Andrew Minyard just happens to be Nicky’s cousin. Neil is adamant that he stick to his mistake rather than confessing it was all a lie, but that means getting Andrew to go along with it.

wasteland, baby (tundra) - palmettto || @sundownstreet​  - Mature Andreil, Kate/Aaron, Nicky/Erik, Laila/Alvarez, Neil & Jean | 23k The approach of the 100th annual Hunger Games–the fourth Quarter Quell–brings a rise in the number of possible tributes for the year. With the new possibility of anyone being chosen, despite age, former victor titles, or gender, it’s no wonder why there’s a spike in not only names in the bowl, but volunteers. Nathaniel Wesninski, a career from district two, finds that the only challenge he’ll truly find within the mosh pit of poorly chosen weaklings is Andrew Dobson, someone who sees what lays behind the sheep’s skin of Nathaniel’s small, lanky stature and his bright blue eyes.

Others like Andrew, with his garden and his silence. So Neil stays and speaks to the flowers and birds, and Andrew begins to wonder about the strange man that speaks the language of rushing water and blooming roses.

He didn’t quite expect to discover a major new dinosaur species…or the sharp-eyed, sharp-tongued PhD student from Cambridge who notices too much and makes him feel too acutely.

They call him Persephone, the god of springtime and new life, the antithesis of Andrew’s realm. It would be ludicrous of Perspehone to ever interact with Andrew at all. If only someone told Persephone that.

Little do they know that the Moriyamas also have the same book and they want to read someone out of it for their knowledge and ability to control the underground life of Baltimore. Someone who had been busy torturing Nathaniel Wesninski before he disappeared in front of their eyes.

He's really not expecting much to change until he comes home after a late night run to find an unexpected scene on his front step. After that he soon realizes how much more fulfilling life can be.

Excerpt: Before Andrew could say anything Renee stepped out of the back office. “Hello Neil, it’s nice to see you again.” Her eyes bounced to Andrew, and he didn’t like the mischievous twinkle in them that said she was reading something into this. “I hope Andrew isn’t giving you too much trouble.”

Neil opened his mouth to answer her, but Andrew cut him off, “I was just telling him how he owed me for last night.”

“Owed you?” Neil repeated eyebrows drawing down in confusion.

Andrew gave a curt nod.

“For what?”

“Your late-night house call.”

Neil looked incredulous. “You want me to pay you for that?”

“I don’t want your money.”

“But you just said-”

Before he could finish Andrew interrupted him by asking, “What do you know about sheep?”

Excerpt:  Andrew dropped their food off without a word or glance, but Neil didn’t take it personally. He wasn’t big on fried food and rarely had chicken tenders, but these were surprisingly good. Neil devoured them in a rush. He held the last tender up for his and Connor’s inspection. What was the deal?

“Checking for traps?”

Andrew again, this time with the check.

“No, I—,” Andrew’s word choice gave Neil pause. He continued carefully. “Just wondering what makes these so good.”

“I make them correctly.” Andrew’s face was bored as he set the check on the table. “Whenever you’re ready.” He glanced back to the tender held aloft in silent mockery.

Neil wanted to leave the tender out of spite, but he was hungrier than he was defiant, so he finished it with the fries. He’d come back when he had enough fuel to give as good as he got. Even so, Neil was happy to have found the diner and felt a bit comforted knowing it would be here if he needed it.

Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad here in Palmetto.
