Afton Williamson: Do y'all remember her?

I literally stopped watching the show right after I found out. I don't know what happened since. Every now and again, I'll see a character to reblog, but that had me very at odds with the show in general. I already am not a fan of cops, so it was a hard nope for me when Sis fled. And I feel like not only wasn't it really discussed enough, as far as supporting Black women goes, but also I feel like we haven't seen her as much since this ordeal and I miss her and hope that she's well.

If you don't know who I am talking about, let's look into her, maybe revitalize her tag here...

Her Imdb page has 2020 as the last entry entered for her as an actress. Before then, it looks like although she wasn't working in critically acclaimed big projects very much, she was regularly working. In fact, it looks like after she had to leave The Rookie, things slowed up for the first time in her acting career in about a decade.

The last post on her Instagram is captioned: "What saddens me the most is that the lengths that were taken to Deceive, Lie, and Cover Up the Truth, were far greater than those made to Protect and Maintain a Safe Working Environment for Employees. It’s Heartbreaking for everyone on that set; Past and Present. And for every Actor out there who Stands in the Face Of Harassment and Discrimination, Assault and Injustice. As a Black Woman, an Artist, an Actor, in 2019. My Speaking the Truth, Standing up for myself, and Leaving an Unsafe Work Environment, Changed things for a lot of people: Black Women, Artists, Actors, Victims, and Survivors of Injustice and Discrimination; Gave Hope and a Promise that things Will Change; that things ARE CHANGING. And that is Not in Vain. My prayer is that we get to a point in this Industry where we don’t just Talk about it in 2 hour Mandatory Meetings. But we adhere to Keeping the Promises Made to Everyone on every set, Tirelessly Fulfilling their Dreams with Passion and Dedication. In order to Be the Change, I want to see, I will Continue to Work so that Casts & Crews alike finally See Words Align With Action. We’ve got to Do Better as an Industry. It’s just Talk until you actually Do Something. ❤️" and was posted 329 weeks ago, which is calculated to be on Sunday September 22, 2019. (Around the time of the incident that drove her away from the show and seemingly out of the spotlight)

As someone who has been following her account since before then, I can say that she definitely used to be more active on it. This isn't something that never happens. A lot of actors do this. But, considering what happened and how she's managed to go deeply out of sight, I can't help but believe that it is because of what happened to her when she was working on that show. I would love to see her again, thriving and doing well outside of that show. I would love to see her tag revitalized with, honestly, anything BUT that show, to be perfectly fucking honest.

Her Wikipedia has a brief reason as to why she left that show. I remember the events pretty well and she was not supported to my liking through those events, in which, she was extremely brave. Especially because it seems like she's either been blacklisted, or lost her love of acting, because she is not around the way that she used to be.

A lot of people think that she lied about what happened to her or exaggerated claims and that it is the reason why she wasn't believed or supported and to that I say: Yes, it is the burden of the accuser to prove the guilt of the alleged, but I simply believe Black women. Black women are the only people I am giving that benefit to, because if nobody else believes you Black women, I do. Unless they prove to me, and I see proof against a Black woman, idc wtf the incident was, I'm believing her and the burden of proof is on literally anybody else that wants me to turn against a Black woman.

Yes, it is a bias. I am a Black woman who supports Black women until I see a tangible reason not to. Others do the same thing, and more often that not, we are at the receiving end of injustices, so I'm standing exactly where I stand unless the world somehow grants us equity.

I remember Afton Williamson, and I miss her.

FUN FACT FRIDAY!!! What’s one fun fact about you that you haven’t shared with us yet?

ooo, okay. Something about me is that when I was 14, about a year (or so) before The Rookie was released, I actually saw them filming the Pilot Episode on Hollywood Boulevard. I actually met Nathan Fillion, and Melissa waved at me. I saw Eric across the way, standing with Afton, and Aly. I think from the OG crew the only ones I didn't see were Titus, Mereceds, and Richard.

I had no clue who they were at the time (I knew Nathan because of Castle, but not the others) but I still thought it was pretty cool. Seeing them film.

I actually remember seeing it and thinking it was a real police chase because if you've ever been to Hollywood you wouldn't be surprised. But then I saw Nathan and I was like hey wait that's that Castle guy isn't it, and my mom FREAKED out. She's like in love with him lmao.

I actually watched the pilot when it came out because my dad wanted to see that scene. (He's adorable)
