Afton was born in Sweden sometime around 600 BC. He was the son of a local chieftain who led several villages & was a shining warrior in his father’s army. During an attack on a neighboring rival village, Afton & his men found the village already destroyed by three of the most terrifyingly beautiful women he’d ever seen. This, he would come to find out, would be the defining moment of his mortal life. The women brought his army to its knees & Afton was the last among them. Able to hide himself in the bloody corpses of his brothers, he attempted to impale one of them with his blade. This woman, named Charmion, was charmed by his effort & changed him rather than slaughter him. Afton woke up several days later in Volterra, thirsting for human blood.

Soon after this transformation, Afton became completely entranced by Charmion and the two quickly married. Thought Afton is a talented vampire, skilled soldier & excellent tactician, his relationship to Chelsea is what keeps him in the Guard as Aro does not value his natural ability.

Afton has a minor shielding skill, but it is limited by the fact that he cannot project it outside of himself. He has the ability to make himself invisible to attackers, but someone with a strong focus can see through the illusion. A person standing directly behind him can be hidden, too, but this is not a very reliable safeguard.
