born in manchester, england, nate grew up surrounded by football. his parents watched it, his older brothers watched it, and so, of course, he watched it.
when he was in the third grace he joined a football team for the first time and became obsessed with the sport. he had a real knack for it, and continued playing throughout school.
when he graduated from secondary school, instead of moving on to college, he decided to pursue a professional football career. he got signed to manchester united football club and played with them for seven years before tragedy struck.
he tore his hamstring during a game, and while his doctors said he’d heal, he probably would never play football again. not professionally, anyways.
he fell into a downwards spiral after that, taking up bartending as his profession and becoming kind of a mess.
he cut himself off emotionally from his friends, family, and would not even consider the possibility of romance. that was, until paradise: season one aired.
he realized maybe there was a way he could find love, after all, but mostly he was intrigued by what was basically an all-expenses-paid vacation to mykonos. he jumped at the chance, and now, here he is.

so, freya is the daughter of a very well-performing hedge fund manager and family physician. her mother, the former, has done surprisingly well keeping her investors much more aware of her social status and influence than the trading she does behind closed doors with their precious millions.
for most of her childhood, freya was paraded around with her two other siblings (wesley and mae) as the golden children of mina and joshua yung-messere at various galas and events - she really never paid much attention to understand the real meaning behind any of it.
as a little girl she was content with the large house and ample income that her parents provided - knowing little other than what she had been born into. the days off school to travel and her father’s flexible schedule made up for the fact that her mother was hardly around
at the age of about 12, freya began to hate the life her parents had built around them. she felt confined, annoyed, and far from the youngest daughter that her mother had dreamed of. her father supported her stepping back from whatever strange ‘big money’ spotlight she had been brought into - but her mother was far from pleased
regardless, she spent her teenage years as a lot of other kids do in the midwest - she fought to go to public school and faced the trials and tribulations of attending a school that would give mean girls a run for its money
she also really loved to publicly support and rally behind anti-big bank organizations throughout the city and may or may not have threatened her mother with the fact that she knew what was going on behind the scenes to get what she wanted (which was usually for her to leave her alone)
by 19, freya was comfortably lying to her mother that she was getting a degree in business management in order to have access to the family funds for tuition. and as soon as she graduated with a degree in journalism (the perfect predictable degree for a softly rebellious child with a parent managing illegal dealings in the business world) freya was discreetly cut off so as not to make a splash in the presses and left adrift
but, when mina yung-messere’s decades of backdoor dealings made their way across front page spreads soon after along with a few cartoons of her in a very unflattering bright orange jumpsuit freya and her family were thrust back into the strange limelight of the business world
so basically freya just wants that good money to be able to support herself and never have to talk to her mother again (she likes the rest of her family alright) and is definitely using that whole ‘oh damn, the disgraced daughter’s back’ press to her advantage

born & raised in brooklyn, dylan is the only daughter of women’s rights activist gemma fitzpatrick and a father she’d never known. the neighbourhood they lived in wasn’t the greatest, but the residents of the apartment complex were tight-knit community, and dylan grew up thinking of her neighbours as as extension of her own family.
she often got into trouble at school; while her heart was in the right place, she had a tendency to act first and ask questions later. it wasn’t unusual to find dylan in the middle of a playground fight, taking on bullies more than twice her size.
as she grew older, she learned how to fight with words instead of her fists. she joined the school paper in high school, coming to prominence for an exposé on the biology teacher who was initiating inappropriate relations with students.
fuelled by knowledge that she could do good with her writing, she went to nyu, where she studied journalism, with a focus on investigative journalism.
every year, dylan’s mother hosts a neighbourhood fundraiser in order to raise money for battered and displaced women. mother and daughter were cooking in the kitchen with the tv on as white noise—showing an old re-run of in paradise—when gemma made a throwaway comment about dylan being on the show.

this led to a v lonely childhood for harper that was filled with nanny after nanny whom she tormented to no end just to get attention from her parents who were almost never home.
she was a child starlet for a few years when she appeared on barney and various disney shows (never in a leading role however) to try and gain more attention from her parents but quickly grew tired of it by age 11 and quit. she had a few film credits to her name on her parents’ projects but nothing major

Destiny was born to a big family–she had three younger siblings (brother, sister, brother) and two older (sister, brother), making her the almost perfect middle child.
Her family was well-off; they had to be, housing and feeding and clothing six children in San Francisco, but that meant Destiny never had to worry about money. She was always given what she wanted, and because she was the middle child, she got away with a lot.
They were the epitome of the perfect family; both her parents had good jobs, they loved each other. Each child was a good student, well behaved; even her eldest siblings decided to join the military, following in their grandfathers footsteps.
The only thing that messed up their picture perfect family was when her oldest brother came out.
Her parents were less than pleased; they kicked him out, not after having a screaming fest and telling him all the reasons he was wrong and disgusting for liking people of the same sex.
Not only did the loss of her older brother hurt like hell, it didn’t help that that was the moment Destiny found herself falling for someone; someone who, by all accounts, her parents would disprove off. Destiny had to make a choice–her family or the person she loved.
In the end, she chose that person; she was in love with them, yes, but for the first time in her life she didn’t have her families support and love. It was a lot for her to deal with, but she found a job as a makeup artist and made do.
Only a month later, her partner broke up with her; they told her they couldn’t be with someone who was so dependent on them for love and support. And suddenly, Destiny found herself all alone again. She couldn’t talk to her family, her partner left her, and she didn’t know where her older brother was. It sucked like hell, but damn, if she wasn’t a fighter.
