Mountain gorillas are vegetarians, and they particularly enjoy stripping the bark from young trees. This does tend to cause conflict with local farmers, so there are programs to ensure they get repaid for any damage done. Thus, no one goes gorilla hunting and these seriously endangered beasties get to keep on making a comeback.

Mountain gorillas are vegetarian, and love stripping the bark from small trees for a meal. This creates conflict with the local people in their home range, so as part of conservation efforts the governments in those countries will repay people for the damage so they don’t try to chase away or harm the gorillas.

Mountain gorillas are some of the most endangered animals on the planet. Rwanda, DRC and Uganda have made them the face of conservation efforts and they’re rebounding, but still precarious.

These are from the Agashya Group (named for the present silverback - permanent name is Group 13) which lives largely on Mount Sabyinyo in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. 

If anyone is looking for a place to donate, the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project could always use more resources - they do amazing work when the gorillas are sick or injured, and support a lot of local charities (education, clean water initiatives, etc).
