It's easy to look at AOT on a surface level and not be bothered by it. I watched it and was like "okay" and then I thought about it. I just want to gush about Erwin and Levi's relationship, which is significantly coloured by my own headcanons but 

We first see Levi from Eren's perspective basically. He's being hero-worshipped and idolized. Humanity's Greatest. You really think he's going to be a totally stoic character - he isn't. He holds the hand of a dying soldier and gives him an uplifting speech on his death bed. Levi cares. He openly hates people dying and dying for nothing. He values human life. 

After that we have Levi in relation to Erwin at the trial and with Eren and shit later. So he beats Eren up - on Erwin's command. He gets Eren under Survey Corp control, under Levi's protection. Levi works in tandem with Erwin, and they're doing their shit. But Levi doesn't blow Eren off. He asks if Eren hates him and explains why he did what he did. He doesn't just abuse Eren and then dismiss him. Levi is dedicated to the cause but he does not make himself inhuman.

Petra shares almost meta insight on him (Petra is perfect also). But that everyone thinks Levi is cool but he's a quick to anger grumpy fuck that people mischaracterize because of idolization. Basically. Levi isn't cool he complains and insults people and is a sassy asshole. Levi is also protective of Eren a poopton and does a lot to explain shit to people and make everyone understand what/why. (There are heichou mama jokes because Levi really does try to take care of the cadets.)

Don't even get me started about the escape scene in that episode. Levi finding his squad dead and just the internal devestation but he keeps going. and then the bodies getting tossed and Petra and levi's face and then petra's dad and levi's face

Now in relation to Erwin...

During the Female Titan chase into the trees, Eren starts freaking out and wants to go help dying soldiers. Between his own perspective and then a pan around, we see that Levi also doesn't know why Erwin is taking them into the forest. But he follows the order. Shit man he always follows Erwin's orders. He also questions why Erwin looks like a crazy man sometimes. Man they just have this intense interwoven relationship.

BUT THEn you gotta understand Erwin too. He's ruthless and cold and an idealist. His vision for Humanity is ridiculous but shapes the entire Survey Corp. He sacrifices soldiers, not unnecessarily but without obvious remorse. (u need to be able to make sacrifices to make change blah blah)

Erwin's strength come from the dedication of his soldiers. The man is full of conviction and we see that he is absolutely devoted to his own cause, unflappable. (manga spoiler: leading the charge even after losing his arm. - Then his response is basically "after everything, an arm is nothing." That's hardcore as shit.) 

But Levi is the strongest soldier out there, and he follows Erwin's orders, even when he is doubtful and confused. That's heavy shit man. heavy shit.

I tag them as The Commander and His Sword. The Commander is obvious, we know what Erwin is. But Levi is his sword.

At his side constantly, deadly and steadfast. But the Commander needs to know how to use his sword because he can fall on it, he can hurt himself. Blades are dangerous. ((so many emotions about their origin story shit fuck)). We see Erwin "draw" Levi at opportune times like at Eren's tribunal. Levi is a force to be reckoned with, everyone knows that. He is undefeatable - and Erwin's the one who handles him.

But Levi isn't emotionless. He's the much more human half of the relationship. They're just so compatible. And in my own headcanon's, Levi who openly cares and shit, being so steadfast to Erwin makes others who might question Erwin's coldness trust the Commander more because they trust Humanity's Strongest

Which ones do we see in the books? I wouldn’t be much into chess, Quidditch, or dueling… An experimental potions club though, yeah. Honestly I’d probably try to start up a club for the people in the back of Professor Binn’s reading furiously as they try to ingest the actual wonders of wizarding history. We’d trade books and ghosts and paintings to talk to. WOW how ghosts would change the face of the study of history.

Architecture of Hogwarts club, too.  Unaware of the existence of the Marauder’s Map, I’d probably try to map the castle myself. Sunday afternoon escapades into the complicated, complex, chameleon parts of the castle with three compasses, a level, and a backpack of cartographical supplies. 

14. Do you think you'll be a prefect or head girl/boy?

Probably not. I’d say no if they offered it.

15. Are you going to be a pure-blood or half-blood or muggle-born?

Half-blood.

18. Do you think you'll get a lot of detention? For what reason/s?

In my academic career, I have received a single detention—for reading in class.

(Then I read through detention).

20. Will you be supportive of your house's Quidditch team?

Well, I wouldn’t boo it. Now, some underwater hockey games in the lake? That I would cheer.

I love the idea of flying. Long-distance cross-country races appeal a lot more to me, though. 

23. Will you subscribe to the daily prophet or the quibbler or other wizarding world media?

Coming from the Muggle world? Yes, definitely. More vitally, though, I’d try to get someone to set up an internet connection for me, so I could get Muggle news too. (Hey, hey, Kat, I bet we know someone in Ravenclaw who could manage that for us, yeah?)

24. Which part of the castle will be your favorite?

Assuming I could get someone to sneak me in, or I let the Hat Sort me there, possibly the Slytherin common room—I love the lake.

Or the kitchens. Yeah, the kitchens. I’d sneak in, ask the elves nicely to allow me access to a stand mixer or so, and then study while my almond-butter-and-chocolate cake and orange-cranberry scones and meringues baked.

32. On your o.w.l.s, what subject/s will you get an O in? Which ones do you think you’ll get a T on?

I test very well, so I’ll probably be alright.

33. How about in your n.e.w.t.s?

Same.

34. If you were a pure-blood, would you take interest in reading muggle literature?

If I was a pure-blood we’d be the Weasleys, pretty literally. All the Muggle lit you want.

42. What will your boggart be?

I don’t like things that can hurt me. But mine would probably be more along the lines of Molly Weasley’s.

46. Will you see the thestrals carrying the carriages?

Yes.

And then I would try to be their friends.

47. If you were invited to join the slug club, will you accept the invitation?

Yeah, I might go to some dinners—free tasty food, my friends, don’t knock it. But wow would I stay away from internalizing Slughorn’s general worldview or self-view.

49. What would your patronus be?

Octopus.

50. What memory will you think of when making a patronus?

Cuddle puddles. My little sister’s face on Christmas morning. A tea party on my front porch with my favorite teacher and good friends, and the look on one of my friends’ faces when I told her everything was gluten-, dairy-, and processed-sugar-free and she could EAT it instead of staring longingly. Drifting in freezing cold water, forty feet under the surface of the Pacific Ocean, staring up through a kelp forest at the sunshine raining down on me.

:( being home w family who arent feminist is really hard and being articulate about it when you dont have anyone backing you up is also hard. just remember that you have convictions and its ok if they dont understand. ur still right.

thanks, that was really sweet :) sometimes it just feels like no one around me believe that sexism still exists, but statistics actually show that Danish people tend to believe that we have more equality than we actually have, so i guess it makes sense that people just write me off as a dumb teenager with conspiracy-like theories:(
