Scouting An Athlete To Represent
Sports agents can either do their own search for athletes to represent or send out scouts to do this important task. Numerous qualities are considered throughout the process of choosing a new client to work with.
The first apparent quality is if the athlete has the potential to make it and succeed professionally in their respective sport. A person can be a star in college or high school, but that does not that mean he/she will have the same luck on a professional level. Making this prediction requires a high intelligence of athlete evaluation from either the agent or whatever scout is sent out by an agent.
A person who can be appealing to the public on and off the court or field is another trait that is looked for. These qualities include someone who is considered attractive, able to conduct themselves properly at all times, and capable of speaking well. An athlete that obtains these traits can have higher earning potential because he/she can be marketable outside of their sport.
An important trait that must be considered is if the potential client contains a certain level of maturity and wisdom. An agent observes these qualities because they want a client who is open to consider different ways of marketing themselves and won't act immaturely in any situation. An immature person is difficult to work with and harder to present to organizations and companies.
