So, maybe it wasn’t the smartest move to stop in the tiniest town Sophie’s ever seen. It wasn’t really her choice--her truck broke down and she had to get it looked at, and thanks to how small the place was she got to hear all the gossip. She had no clue what was going on, but she knew the moment she heard the FBI was here she had to get out. Not that she had a warrant or anything, but other than a select few, cops gave her the willies.

She had a feeling that she was about to regret opening her mouth, but he seemed to be he only other outsider around, and it would give her a good feel of whether or not she should be worried. “So, uh, know of any good places to get food around here?”

  It was always one thing to provide details about things she had seen, or to give general directions. Or to just be a listening ear whenever Dale had seemed to need it in the midst of everything going on in his life. It was another to actually be asked to accompany him, at least to show him a better idea of where she was when the sighting had occurred. “Ah, yeah .. I can show you but it’s a bit of a trip. I hope you don’t mind that - if it’s worth getting you the help you need.” If nothing else, she did want to be a good source of assistance to him. She always did, even if it was often for way more personal reasons than she’d care to admit.

“A reason for what, Janey-E?”

He found it increasingly difficult to navigate this new world of Douglas Jones, the man who’s life he had awoken into. Since that day at the hospital, his wife seemed to be increasingly suspicious. Who ever he was, he wasn’t the man she married. That much was true. But how would he tell her? Each time he tired, he could not find the words.

Sonny Jim had gone to bed. They were left alone, sat across the table from each other, two slices of chocolate cake laid out on floral patterned plates between them.

“I’m home now. For good.”

Janey’s suspicions were high. Since the day Dougie had woken from his coma, things seemed ... off with him. He was more talkative, more involved, more caring... and though, she wasn’t complaining about the changes, he was nothing like the Douglas Jones she had married. 

She was sure their son, Sonny Jim, had noticed the differences as well. But he finally had the father he deserved and Janey-E wouldn’t dare bring up her suspicions to him. 

Her fork clinked against her plate, a sigh escaped her lips as she looked across the table at her husband. 

“You’re not the same, Dougie.” she stated, letting her fork fall out of her hand completely. “There’s something different about you.”

     “You don’t gotta do all this, y’know,” she murmured, looking at him from the side. Her arms were folded across her chest, and for the first time in quite some time, Shoshanna was acting her age: a teenager. Angsty, dramatic, stubborn. “You don’t gotta help me just ‘cause... you feel sorry for me, or anything.” Blue eyes glanced over at Dale while she licked her lips, shaking her head.

1. A very random headcannon regarding the ship

They do breakfast in bed a lot. When Dale doesn’t have to be away for a case, they spend saturday morning in their pj’s, making breakfast and eating it in bed as they talk about the week. 

2. A headcannon regarding an argument the two characters have had in the ship

Sophie has a tendency to get jealous, and one time they got into a very silly argument when she saw Dale with a female agent--the argument was stupid because Dale wouldn’t cheat, and the other agent preferred women over men. 

3. A sex related headcannon for the ship

Sophie has made him ‘christen’ rooms. It started way back when they first got together and they slept in each others motel rooms, and it happens now. 

4. A headcannon related to the ship’s favorite date location

There’s a little coffee shop by the dance studio that Sophie got a job at once she settled into Philly. They tend to do lunch dates a lot, and they have good coffee (both regular for Dale and flavored stuff for Soph) and really good scones. 

5. A headcannon about cuddling in the ship

They cuddle a lot. Soph loves to cuddle, and if she see’s Dale relaxing on the couch you best believe she’s gonna sit down and cuddle him. 

6. Another very random headcannon for the ship

Sophie’s mother actually likes Dale. Sophie was afraid to even mention him to her because of the FBI thing, and because Maryellen is pretty awful but she introduced them at Andy’s second birthday, where she met her grandson for the first time as well.

7. A very fluffy related headcannon for the ship

The first night Sophie tried to make a romantic meal for them, she burned everything and they had to order in pasta. It became their thing, and anytime they have date night at home they order from the same pasta place. 

8. A headcannon about the ship that is not in anyway related to romance or sex.

Sophie became a huge Eagle’s fan since moving to Philly, and drags Dale to games when they get a chance.

Zora returned a bright smile when Dale said she looked amazing. She couldn’t resist doing a slight twirl in response. 

“Why thank you. Oh, this? I saw this in a thrift shop a few years back. They always do have some amazing finds. I’ve been lucky to pick up a number of really cool things from such places.“

@agentcoopxr gets an apology from Sophie.

How do you write everything you’ve ever wanted to tell someone in a letter when you have twenty minutes top before you know he’ll wake up? Sophie didn’t want to leave, but she knew that she couldn’t stay--he deserved better than her, and she knew if she stuck around he wouldn’t find that. Besides, when he did find it she’d just end up heart broken, so why not beat it to the punch?

She was wearing the pajama shirt that he lent her the first night they were together--it still smelled like him since she stayed over so much his room was practically hers, and she was going to keep it. A reminder of what they had.

She carefully laid the note she wrote on the nightstand beside him, hoping he’d find it in the morning before he noticed that she was gone, before quietly gathering her things and leaving, heading somewhere south.

Please don’t hate me. I’m sorry that I’m leaving. I know this is shitty, but it’s for the best. You don’t want wrapped up in my crazy. I’m not what you need, and every moment we spend together I can feel us getting closer and closer, and I can’t. I won’t be able to make you happy. I know you think I can, but I’ll just break your heart. You need someone who will treat you good. 

I hoped I saved you, gave you the jolt you needed to help heal the pain in your heart from that girl you couldn’t save. I’m sure you’ll find someone else who can finish the saving, who’ll make you whole without the baggage I’d bring.

Again, I’m sorry. I hope you’ll understand why I’m leaving.
