Rebecca was becoming painfully aware of how foolish she had been. She’d left the station in the hopes of recovering a few family photos from her apartment; it was all she had of her family, her long-dead parents she’d never truly known. But halfway down the first street she ventured upon, she was cut off by the monstrous creatures now permeating Raccoon City. Cerberus dogs had chased her into a building, where she had to sneak by lickers - and failed, once again being chased out and injuring her leg - and now she was hobbling along alleyways, staying out of the main streets, trying to find a safe place to patch herself up.
Eventually, she managed to duck into a small office and huddle into a corner, drawing out her medbag for supplies. She was swift in patching the wound; no small amount of peroxide was used to disinfect it, and she almost screamed from the pain that rocketed through her leg as a result. She'd had to bite down on her arm to stifle it, which also hurt, but was better than drawing every monster in the building to her. The bandages were still sterile, but she had to be careful not to let them touch any of the blood on her vest. The result of such a blunder would be unpleasant to say the least.
It was...terrifying. Logically, she knew she should be shaking like a leaf. But she was so used to the nightmare, and now she was going numb. Much like her poor leg. Even after all she’d endured, she was still just a rookie, and now, one without mentors, one without backup. The train, the training facility, the mansion - she’d never been alone. She always had someone else with her. And now here she was, in a city of nightmares; it was the training facility all over again, except so much worse, and this time she didn’t even have Billy. She was well and truly alone. But maybe she didn't have to be. Fingers twitched as her hand moved, grasping onto the radio attached at her left hip.
“This is Rebecca Chambers, from S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team! Is anyone there? Brad? Jill? Someone!”
But despite her pleas cast into the radio, she knew it was for naught. The radio equipment in the STARS office had been fried just days prior. She doubted any of the others had their personal radios on them, and Brad was silent. He'd been silent for a while. Her only option was to duck down, hide, and patch herself up - before moving on. Maybe she could make it back to the station if she ran...see if Marvin was still helping survivors. She wanted to be of help, but this...
“I’m downtown, by that toy shop. The one with the stupid bobblehead! If you can hear me, meet me there!”
Within minutes she was back on the streets, with a newfound determination. She had to find Jill and Brad. They would probably be out on the streets somewhere, right? She was pretty sure Jill wasn’t the type to just hole up in a building and wait, and Brad wouldn’t have gone back to the station, he was trying to find Jill, last she heard. So, reasonably...she’d just have to make some noise, right? She stopped right next to the toy store, pulling her Samurai Edge from its holster and firing two shots into the air, inadvertently getting the attention of some of the zombies. They were far enough away that Rebecca wasn’t concerned.
She was being stupid, being naïve, and she knew it - but she hoped, sincerely, that this hare-brained plan would work, and someone would hear her. Unfortunately for her, she wasn’t yet aware of the hulking one-eyed rocket launcher-toting abomination hunting STARS members, and was thusly unaware that broadcasting her position was about the most foolish move she could have made.
