I am a huge language geek.  As in, I’m a little obsessed with language and how it relates to culture, to identity, to understanding the worl

I love language & I am queer & I am learning cree/michif. For anyone else in a similar boat (like the other cree-learning michif trans man I know who went to school for anthropology) I think it is a worthwhile read!

"Agokwe (a variation of agokwa, the Anishinaabe word which loosely translates to "man-woman" but in modern usage is better understood as "two-spirited"), a story of unrequited love between two gay teenage boys. The play explores themes of love, sexuality, homophobia, isolation, and Native cultural traditions. Agokwe premiered at Toronto's Buddies in Bad Times theater on September 23, 2008. The play went on to win six Dora Mavor Moore Awards, including Outstanding New Play, in 2009.

In 2019, Fobister introduced Omaagomaan (loosely translated as "someone biting very hard"), a dance that draws attention to the mercury poisoning and subsequent health problems within their community in Grassy Narrows"

Piece is Agokwe, focusing on Anishinaabe storytelling/ queer depictions. Play focused on effects of colonization on indigenous mindsets and incorporates Anishinaabe values, characters (like Nanabush/ Nanabozho) and language.

Does anyone have any recommendations for awesome books/articles by Two Spirit / Queer Indigenous authors/scholars/performance artists?

I’m preparing my senior art project for this upcoming school year so any recommendations would be great!!

While I would love them to mostly be related to the performing arts, any kind of two spirit-related articles/books/etc would work

I would prefer full-text articles if they are accessible online. Links to videos of performances/poetry/etc or even connecting me to some amazing artist would help a lot as well!
