Kaia knocked on the door impatiently, bouncing on her heels. “Aaron, hurry up! We won the championship game and you’re taking forever! We need to celebrate!”

Right on Time | Kaia & Aaron | Valentine’s Day 2018
Kaia had been avoiding Aaron since that night at the lake. It had all happened so fast, and after that he actually knew about her crush. That was fine when Aaron was in the dark and no one knew about how she felt. But now there was no denying it-- not after they’d kissed.
Thoughts of how she could’ve handled the situation better kept bothering her as she sat on the Gondola in silence with the boy who’d volunteered to go with her. Kaia didn’t know who it was, but she couldn’t help but feel relieved at the total anonymity of it all. It was humiliating enough to be called out and someone had to volunteer to ride with her. The only thing that saved her identity and what self respect remained was the sequined mask that covered the upper half of her face.
However, silence was never Kaia Ling’s strongest suit. And the silence had to be broken. “Do you ever feel like this entire holiday is just a way to shame people who are so undesirable that someone has to drink a love potion to think they’re worth loving?” She asked as she stared at the lights that shone on the chilly lake. On a normal day, Kaia wouldn’t have the nerve to speak such negative things, but the darkness of the night and the extravagant attire she wore created a safety blanket.
