John Lennon, in response to Elliot Mintz’s arrival. Lennon was drunkenly damaging property in L.A and May Pang, his assistant/partner, had called Mintz as she was concerned for Lennon’s safety. Mintz was Lennon’s close friend and confidant.
The next morning, Lennon phoned Mintz to apologize:
In all the times I've known you, the very worst thing I could think of to say to you was that you were a bastard Jew. I guess I must really love you.
