Like I said, I am editing that sort of “biography/memory dump between the both of us. This is chapter one, so it’s just sort of an intro but it’s. good.
William Afton did not start off as a violent child. There are no horror stories of him hurting innocent bunnies or kittens or puppies. Ok, wait. Yes, he killed a dog once. When he was 14. But it was indirect, and for the record, that dog was mean as shit and it bit his mother! Not to mention, when his mother told him the dog had died, he cried. It didn't feel real until the dog was really dead, and that struck him like a baseball bat to the the crown. Will never really liked dogs, anyway. In fact, he downright hated them, and couldn’t stand dog lovers. But from then on he promised to never hurt an animal ever again. (In fact, he doesn’t like killing bugs and will demand you remove the spider and not kill it.)
But that’s aside the point. Will never was out to hurt anyone from the getgo. He had an alcoholic and abusive father until he was seven, yes, but it made him timid, not vengeful. He was diagnosed with psychosis when he was seven (part of the reason the father was kicked out- apparently his son was “broken”, on top of being imperfect in every other way, and Ms. Afton would have None Of That), but in no way violent, and he was given trilofen to help.
When Will was in High School, he was the runt. Everyone was out to get him. He tried to make friends, and very shortly they'd dislike him for one reason or another, no matter who he tried to fit in with. He was too light and bubbly for the punk kids, too gay for the sports kids, a weirdo to the girls, and too outcast for anyone else. There was a group of kids who figured out how much of a crybaby he was, and took advantage of it on a regular basis. Ms. Afton would commonly come in and defend her son. She would fight anyone who would try and defend the kids who had physically hurt him, but when she fell ill to a returning stomach cancer when Will was 15, and then passed away when he was 16, there was no one to come to his rescue. It didn't turn worse until Will figured out the pocket knife he had glued to his side everywhere he went could be used as actual protection. Well, his words against the other kids, Will was the one using a knife.
His councilor told him he would grow up to kill people.
Then one day, when crying in the hall, a taller brunette boy sat quietly beside him. Will looked up slowly, but didn't slow his sniffling. He just didn't want to be hurt, again.
"They don't like me, either." The boy said softly. He had a slight smile. It was warm, and friendly.
Will wiped his cheek and looked at this new boy curiously. But he knew better; absolutely no one could like him for all his aspects. There was always one thing or another that would drive them off. So he did not get his hopes up. In fact, he probably had a scowl on his face.
Suddenly, Will recognized the boy. He had once tried to chase off the kids that were hurting Will. He instead turned into the center of attention, but smiled at Will even when they gave him a black eye.
The boy stuck out his hand. "I'm Henry."
Will stared at the hand. "I'm-"
"William, I know." Henry smiled.
Will couldn't help but smile, too. This kid seemed so.. Genuine. Maybe he could make a friend. Even if it was just this one.
The boys began hanging out often. You seldom heard one name without the other. Henry kept Will safe (and out of trouble), and Will constantly talked up Henry’s dreams and scared anyone who tried to call him a nerd or try and tell him they were dumb or too far off. Not to mention, Will was a mildly frightening kid. He was fragile, yeah, but if you didn’t know it you wouldn’t think it. And if it was a bad day, it wasn’t anyone but Henry who could stop him from picking a fight.
“You have to promise you won’t tell anyone, though.”
Will nodded.
“Willie! Promise!”
Will giggled. It sounded like a young child making someone pinkie swear not to tell the teacher they found a dead mouse outside of the playground. “I promise, Henry.” Will’s attention suddenly caught on that their thighs were in contact. The two were sitting on Henry’s bed, with flashlights around them. The comforter was quite soft, and the boys were fairly close, as though telling secrets.
“Alright… well, it’s stupid, I know, but… I really want to become an engineer.”
Will shrugged and smiled lightly. “Why’s that such a big secret? You’re great with that sort of stuff.”
“I mean like, an animatronic engineer.”
Will’s eyes lit up. Now that was something to behold. “Holy shit, Henry! That’s rad!!”
Henry smiled and laughed. “Aw don’t tell anyone please… I already get enough guff from the kids because of my programming classes…”
“Henry,” Will said, taking his friend’s hand (which surprised them both). “I will back you up no matter what.”
“Besides… it’s not like it’ll ever become anything…”
“You want a bet? That would be an amazing career! Especially for you!”
Henry smiled sheepishly. “C’mon Willie, be logical. What’re the odds it works out?”
Will’s face turned very serious, and almost scary. “Henry. I hereby promise I will do anything and everything in my power to get this to become a real thing. I will get you there.”
“How will you-“
“I’ll get myself a business degree and we’ll set you up with everything.”
“You want to go in to show business, I thought..?”
Will’s expression softened. “No doubt about it. But more than anything, I want to see you be successful.”
Henry felt his face heat up and he laughed to hide the fact he was flattered and somewhat taken aback.
“Alright, William Afton. You’ve got yourself a deal.”
