I love this special place in my yard here in Manitoba. This is an amazing smell memory spot for me. Sometimes I'll even sprinkle water here to enhance the smell. It's a mixture of pine and dirt, and the way the pine needles crunch when you step on them. The needles of the tree falling and sticking to my hair. This takes me back to BC Canada where I grew up climbing mountains, hiking and running wooded trails. Theres something to be said for climbing a mountain and being higher than the place you came from with that perspective making you realize how small your problems are. Tasting that earthy pine as im through the woods like a forest fairy. Trying to beat my last time in the trails. This takes me back to a time of fresh freedom and personal challenges. When it was just me and the woods and that was all I had and all I could count on. To a place where I earned my independence and learned about forest magic.
