treasure hunt frenzy part 2

He’d finally met up with Nicolette earlier, in the chaos, and they’d worked together for a bit— however, neither of them had found Hawks yet, and they were both entirely sure he was still helping people, despite the urgency of the situation and so they’d split up to look for the wayward hero whilst helping out whoever they could find themselves. They’d planned to meet up again later, even if they hadn’t found Hawks.
Chuuya was doing a sweep of the collapsing apartments, the protective bubble collapsing and the sudden water pressure forcing the building to crumble. He’d already helped a few people out from wreckages, and there was only one area he had left to check; there was a small courtyard out back, that had earlier been filled with children and couples but was now entirely empty except for the wreckage, and a small figure, curled up on the ground, looking as if they’d been hit by something falling.
Chuuya calls out to them — “Hey! You alright, kid?” — and moves to approach them, help them up, but as he gets closer he freezes, something in his stomach running cold.
He recognised the child. It wasn’t just anyone, but, Ahiru, clutching her knee with one arm and a small bird in her other! The air around Chuuya changes slightly, eyes widen, and the man lets out a frustrated string of curses, too worked up to do his usual censoring around the girl. The wreckage around his feet floats, slightly, clearing his way as he runs over to her.
“Ahiru...! Are you hurt?! Can you stand?”
Questions fall from mans lips, continuous. He’s almost scary, the way his brows furrow, the tone of his voice, but he seems to focused on Ahiru’s condition to even consider that he might be scaring her.
