We decided to concentrate on packages that would take care of daily needs for the summer. For women: packages contained underwear, nail clippers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, deodorant, chapstick, bandaids, shampoo, sunscreen, soap, Qtips and tampons. For men: packages contained underwear nailclippers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, floss, deodorant, shampoo, sunscreen, chapstick, bandaids, hairbrushes, baby wipes, soap and Qtips.
We received $755 in cash donations, in addition to countless items. We used the funds to purchase enough items to create 200 care packages (85 men, 69 women, and 47 unisex), 250 bananas and pears, 240 croissants and bagels, 98 granola bars and 355 bottles of cold water. Each package also contained a handwritten note.
We distributed the items on Sunday, August 9th, outside the CCNV/Open Door Shelter, McPherson Square Park, Bethany Women’s Shelter, Clarendon/Courthouse and on parks and sidewalks.
