John in Part 38 genuinely makes my heart hurt if i think about it for too long.

Yes, he is actively manipulating Arthur at this point, trying to get him to leave the stone with Oscar, to sacrifice his life to save theirs. Arthur knows something is wrong with him, knows he hasn't been given the full story, but he wants to trust John. John has been all hes had for so long now.

And the same is true for John. Arthur is all hes ever known. Arthur is his everything. And when Arthur ignores him, he can't understand why. He immediately spirals back into his manipulative ways, plying Arthur with words both incredulous and sweet - "how could you say that? after everything we've been through?" - but you cannot convince me that there wasn't an underlying current of truth and heartbreak in there.

John wants to mean something to Arthur. Desperately. He wants to be as important to Arthur as Arthur is to him. "Am I so fucking incidental to you?" Incidental. Inconsequential. Forgotten.

"So what do you care about, then?" "You!" He admits it himself. He wants the favor returned. He just wants Arthur to care.

John has only ever wanted to be loved.

“ your lips are calling my name. ” Chimira

Chim had one arm elbow-deep in a massive sack of gummi bears, the other holding open a Hellboy comic. He was expecting company. Kira had been sick, and had kept to her own home while recovering for several weeks but now that she was starting to feel better she was finally going to return to the InBetween.

Not too soon either, her presence, as much as he would never admit it, had an impact on him. She calmed him, helped him feel less tense, and brought some semblance of contentment into his life.

He grabbed a handful of the bears and dropped them into the waiting stomach-mouth, his head tilting and a smirk playing across his face as he heard the door open. He could sense her presence before he even caught her sweet scent in the air.

And there it was, the honey and spice aroma that accompanied her as she walked into the darkened room. He broke into a grin, which while it would have looked terrifying to anyone else she understood as him being pleased. He slid the comic to the side and dusted his hands off from the gummies before leaning his arms against the back of the couch, "Dollface..."

"Chimney? I missed you..."

"Well then, you better get over here and make up for lost time...", he snickered as she came over to where he sat, noticing the bounce in her step before she hopped into his lap.

He rubbed his hands over her with renewed appreciation. He growled as he breathed her in, "Dollface...your lips are calling my name", he cupped his hands around her, kneading into her hips as she straddled him.

She settled onto him as his lips met hers. Despite the coldness of his mouth, he tasted of roasted sugar and smoke, his scruff rubbing against her chin. She leaned into him, missing the feel of his roughened fingertips massaging and grasping onto her. The sense of pure need he exuded fed into her own. Her hands found his hair and before she even realized what was happening she had pushed him against the back of the couch, eliciting a grunt from him.

"Ah Chimney! I'm sorry I-"

She was surprised to hear him chuckle, "Do you hear me complaining? If anything...you should do it harder...”
