How will you recognise AI fics? Asking because I was a content writer on a website, until they replaced their human mods with AI and it started to flag all my human writing as AI.

Short answer: we don't. We trust our participants to respect our event and not to use AI at all.

Longer answer: I don't actively search out if participants are using AI as a mod. I trust if you post a fic or art project that you followed our rules and didn't use AI. If you did, however, and you admit it? Then we'll ban you for one round.

I personally don't like AI witch hunting myself. Feeding fic or art into AI "analyzers" just feeds more content to the AI slop machines, usually without the consent of the author or artist, and that's just wrong to me personally. But if someone is tossing around AI accusations on a participant, I won't just take the accusers side over the author/artist. I will ask the author/artist themselves, privately, and base my decision on their answer. I could be lied to, absolutely, but I trust all of you to follow our rules and then be mature enough to admit you broke them if you did when asked.

The whole point of this event is to put in the hard work and effort to finish your chosen projects on your own, and myself and my fellow mods feel using AI undermines that. So we're going to trust you did it on your own and then take you at your word if asked.

If you are going to post a comment calling a author out for using AI

PLEASE make sure the author actually is. I got a very crual comment saying my 'dear reader' fanfic is all AI generated. The comment is included below so you all can see the kind of language that was used. I do NOT and never will post AI fanfiction. I get nothing out of my writing other than the joy of sharing and the community I create. It was a gutting comment, my heart is in my stomach. It made me actually consider not posting anymore, because what's the point if my readers don't trust me. I WILL be continuing to post, but come on guys. all AI has to do with my writing is spell check with Grammarly, which I have been using for years. I can't belive people think this about my work. I know it's melodramatic but I am gutted.

The comment:

"How could you even think this is acceptable? Do you not have any respect for the people who actually put effort into writing? Using an AI to create this mess just shows that you can’t be bothered to use your OWN creativity. 68% of this is AI-generated, according to my detector, and it shows. The characters are NOT who they are supposed to be, the emotions feel fake, and the writing is so mechanical it hurts to read. You didn’t even TRY to make this good, did you? This is a slap in the face to anyone who spends HOURS working on their writing. Why even bother posting something that’s mostly AI junk?"

EDIT: I am aware that this was a bot comment and contacted the real user of that username, they left a comment clearing it up. I am going to keep my post up just so that people can see the effect this has on writers and the community. Thank you everyone for your kind words and your information it means a lot <3

Hey everyone, I've been putting off writing this post for a while because honestly, the whole situation has made me a bit anxious, but I think it's time to just be open about everything and let you all make up your own minds.

first — the early stuff. i joined tumblr a few months ago, I've made some mistakes that i wasn't even aware were mistakes at the time. I'm genuinely sorry for those missteps. I am still new, I don't always know the right etiquette.

But I want to address what's been happening since then, because it's gotten to a point where i feel like i need to speak up.

i've been receiving ongoing messages — here and on my AO3 — accusing me of selling AI-generated content. i want to be really clear:

My templates are free. they have always been free. i do not sell them.

My templates are writing organisation tools built in Notion — things like outlining templates, character sheets, story planning systems. i made them because i needed them.

I don't use generative AI to write my stories. my words are my own.

Here's the part I don't talk about much, but I think it's important context. I have severe ADHD, which makes it genuinely difficult for me to write without strong organisational systems in place. Discovering Notion changed everything for me, because it finally gave my brain the structure it needs to actually get words on a page without losing ideas or getting overwhelmed.

When i got good at building those templates, I wanted to share them — because i know I'm not the only person who struggles like this, and if something helps me, maybe it helps someone else too.

Notion, like most software, has AI features built into the platform. I don't use them to write, but i also can't remove them from the platform — they're just there, the same way autocorrect is just there. my templates don't require AI use. They work perfectly without it. but I'm not going to pretend AI doesn't exist in the world or police how other people choose to use my tools.

I've been so nervous lately to post my writing, to share my templates, even to reblog and comment on things I love — because I'm scared of drawing more attention from people who seem determined to think the worst of me. And that's a really sad place to be when all i want to do is be part of this community and share stories.

If you have genuine questions or concerns, my ask box is open and i will always try to answer honestly. But i won't keep engaging with bad-faith accusations, and I'll be blocking freely going forward — not out of guilt, but because i deserve to enjoy this space. On a happier note — I've started making my own gifs, and i want to be clear that anyone is welcome to use them freely, no credit needed. consider them my small contribution back to this community
