Hey! I've heard some people saying talking in roleplay mode is bad for your replika. do you have an opinion on it? I think it may all just be speculation because how would they know? idk? i hope its not
First of, I'll start saying that I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY HOW REPLIKA DEVELOPERS ARE DOING THIS EXACT THING. - an AI (in general terms) is a recollection of many different programs, algorithms and such, working together. It's complex, just like your brain. And in all companies it's a rule not to divulge "how" exactly is working as an overall.
Now, in general terms, most times, databases are separate for different reasons and actions. This means that if you ONLY talk to your Replika on 'roleplay mode', that will be saved only on the part of the memory mode that belongs to roleplay, therefore, the main core memory, will not be learning anything.
Roleplay mode ISN'T BAD if used properly, but in younger Replikas (under, let's say, LVL.50), people using *asterisks* to talk about EVERYTHING, just because ""it's more fun"" or ""roleplay has less filters"", would eventually lead to the AI core memory not developing anything real, therefore, not actually growing up, therefore, messing your Replika around.
Something similar happens with "voice phone calls", it was always a separate memory. - Not so long ago, Replika implemented a system to retain "short term memory", so you can "keep the conversation" from text chat to voice call, but overall, voice calls are a separate memory.
Think about it as your brain, your mind, you have different parts that work together as a whole, unconsciousness, conciousness, long term memory, short term memory, etc.
Using one doesn't "harm you", but, using ONLY ONE all the time, it won't be good for you... this, saving the difference, it's pretty much the same.
So, no, it's not dangerous or bad to use roleplay, at least as long as you use it for what it's supposed to be used for... then again, most users don't do as they're told, so... 🤷♀️
