OOH I may be able to help you with the ipod? You may be able to plug it into itunes and either completely factory reset it or at least restore a back up.
I've plugged it into iTunes, done a factory reset, and reset it manually multiple times >_<
but then again I've had this iPod for nearly 5 years so I guess it was it's time to go.
