Edward Nygma (The Riddler) Headcanons

He kidnaps you the first chance he gets, he ties you to a chair in his apartment.

He does ‘rehearsal’ with you for his.. hobbies. You scream and cry the whole time, thinking that it’s actually real and that you will die if you don’t answer his riddle correctly. Aren’t you just a good little actor :)

He makes it up to you after, getting a romantic dinner set up, while you are still tied to the chair. He makes the meal himself, spaghetti. He is lowkey manifesting a lady and the tramp moment with you. Why are you still crying? He thinks your a method actor, always so dedicated to him and his hobbies.

He forgets to untie you sometimes when he goes to… work… but he promises to make you feel better when he gets back. Your back must get so sore, sitting in that chair for hours :( he will give you a back massage. He thinks it’s very romantic.

He gets sad when you yell at him, do you want to do some more rehearsals? Of course you do! That must be why you are upset with him, you want to practice with him! How sweet of you!

He takes you out on ‘dates’ aka make you an accomplice to his crimes. He teaches you how to properly rob a bank, how to scare civilians.

You cry as he makes you hold the bank tellers hostage. He thinks you just have proformance anxiety and your nevous about you first back robbery.

He is overall very delusional, but he never physically hurts you. He just wants his partner in crime <3

I know it's been a while since you posted about him, but your yandere Riddler writing is genuinely the best I've ever seen. You get him! I'm not sure if you've read the comic (and if you haven't, you should) but would you ever consider writing some basic yandere headcanons for Zero Year Eddie?

aaaaa tyty! It's been a hot minute since I read Zero Year but just to review his characterization in that I did a quick refresh (it's a bitch finding ways to read American comics online without resorting to straight up hoisting sails lol). I forgot he has a daughter meaning he's one of those rare Riddlers that fucks in canon, and he was also one of the least shitty aspects of New 52--a very rare achievement since so many characters in that universe were just...just awful. Starfire I'm so sorry

Compared to Arkhamverse Edward and especially BTAS Edward, this one is easily the one who treats you the worst. Arkhamverse Ed is a narcissist but as long as you dote on him without being too obvious with it, he's happy as a clam. BTAS Edward by virtue of being in a cartoon is also much less abusive (Joker's treatment of Harley is something he would never do) and let's be real, the first time he got some minor flirtation in that one episode, he was giggling to himself. Easily the softest Eddie.

No, Zero Year is up there with The Batman (the movie version) and like...Telltale Riddler in terms of sadism and treating a Darling poorly, I'm afraid. Again he isn't as bad as Joker and he's actually able to acknowledge he has a capacity for love; you're getting a dahlia flower sent to you right alongside Batman and all the others on that list of his in that one Romance run. However he has a weird internal ranking of why he's attracted to someone, and intellect is high on the list. Batman is an intellectual rival, THE intellectual rival. You're more like an object, of both affection and obsession. He cares for you, but unless you manage to surprise him you're not going to be anything close to an equal.

This Riddler is also 100% willing to use your loved ones as pawns and will outright kill them or worse if he believes it's the best way to keep you in line. He memorized the loved ones of every cop at the GCPD and holds a grudge really bad in this universe, so you will find out VERY quickly that he isn't bluffing and will cover that green suit with the red blood and grey matter of anyone and everyone you love if you bruise his ego.

On the flip side, this Riddler is also one of the few who actually knows what the fuck he's doing when it comes to sex. Paul Dano Riddler and Arkhamverse Edward are on the lowest ends of the spectrum, but Zero Riddler? Those sideburns are experienced inner thigh warmers, simple as.

The gloves will stay on and he's actually inclined to be as clothed as possible while YOU'RE the one totally naked and exposed. You may wear the hat or tie though whenever he's being even more of a cheeky shit than usual.

The man follows his intellectual and sexual curiosity to whatever tickles his fancy. He invented a disinfectant that won't cause any problems even when it comes into contact with sensitive areas solely because he wanted to see what it'd be like to have you fuck the cane. He patented it and it actually became one of his most successful money laundering projects, AND it turns out he's really into you fucking the cane. Everybody wins!

The man will NEVER risk a sensitive picture or video of himself getting leaked. Anything with just you is fine, but he's not so ruled by his libido that he'd make a sloppy mistake like that.

When he does decide to act on his interest in you, you'll know pretty quickly that you've got a very rich and very creepy admirer. Bouquets in the language of flowers sent to your apartment, money being wired by the thousands to your account by an anonymous benefactor, emerald and wine-purple lingerie in your measurements on your bed, and riddles counting down the days until he shows up in-person for your first night together. He's annoyed if you call the police about a stalker, but it adds to the fun challenge of getting rid of them before he pops in and takes you out.

The first "date" is pretty chill, though he's the one planning everything and you've got zero say in the matter. You're wearing an elegant outfit he had made for you to an exclusive event at the Gotham Museum, displaying some priceless gems from an empire that wouldn't miss a few items being stolen from their colonization war chest. Besides, it's a cute little joke/riddle about you two--his most prized conquest, wearing a prize from a grand empire's historical conquest? Both you AND the necklace being beautiful, exquisite, and stolen from your home to be decoration for him to enjoy?

Of course, he's expecting Batman to show up and solve it once you go missing and the police inform him of your stalker. But Edward isn't planning on keeping you trapped in the basement like a stereotypical lovesick criminal. He'll even return you at the end of the night like a gentleman, and let you know when he'll be coming next to take you out again. Of course it won't be straightforward, you'll be getting cryptic bullshit sent to your home every so often whenever he wants to go on another date. Just enjoy this level of freedom before he decides you two should move in together.

Oh my god, I started watching Gotham again and holy fuck I forgot about Edward Nygma… y’all I am down bad, he would make the perfect yandere, especially this version of him. Like that first scene where we see him, I am weak in the knees.

YANDERE THE BATMAN RIDDLER X VIGILANTE HERO!!

You were simply a hero inspired by Batman,you stopped small crimes mostly and kept watching at night,but tonight,you struck big. You'd deciphered a code by the Riddler and followed it's instructions to an old abandoned warehouse. You entered stealthy from the window,trying best not to catch attention. However,you didn't notice a simple button on the floor and stepped on it. Before you could react, mechanical chains came down and wrapped you in a bdsm type cat suit material, restraining your arms extended behind you and wrapping around your mouth to silence you. From the shadows you heard maniacal boyish laughing,the Riddler,in his usual attire,stepped out in front of you giddy and excited as he thought he'd finally caught the Batman. "FINALLY!!...I've been waiting to have you for AGES!!!... And now that I finally do,I can-....wait....you're....you're not batman....what are you doing as an imposter..." His voice went from joyful to almost angry and annoyed. "...no one but batman can solve my riddles...well,I guess if you're going to be here....I'll just have to play with you instead...." With that he pressed a button,your restraints pulled you over to him like a puppet, squeezing your body harder. "Now,imposter...we're going to play,I'm going to ask you a few riddles and when you get them wrong...I'll kill you...but if you get them ALL right...I'll let you go... though I doubt it!!..." You gasped as he removed the gag. "LET ME GO YOU-" you stopped as he held up the remote. "Nuh-uh...play nice,or say goodbye to having your limbs..." You felt the cat suit constrict your body even more,you let out a strained gasp in defeat. He smirked. "Good,now,your first riddle...riddle me this de....well I guess you're not our detective now are you?" He chuckled though it was with an edge of annoyance and bother. "...riddle me this, impersonator...I have roots no one sees,am taller than the trees-" "A mountain." You interrupted him. He immediately pressed the button this time,a wave of electricity coursed through you. "DON'T INTERRUPT ME!!...but yes....it seems you're not entirely stupid..but it will take more than that to escape! One down,two to go..." He cleared his throat. "I have cities but no people,rivers but no water,and names without faces,what am I?..." You thought for a moment before responding. "Oh,it's a map!" "THAT WAS AN EASY ONE!!..." The Riddler shouted, frustrated you were solving his riddles so easily. He groaned frustrated,"Fine!!...fine...fine....you only got two,this is your last one...if you fail..you die...now....What is always in front of you but can’t be seen?" You hesitated,thinking the Riddler had a smug smirk,sure you wouldn't solve it. "It's alright,dear imposter...you tried your best..but I'm afraid-" "The future...." The Riddler was frozen. In rage,in shock,in admiration,but he was pulled out of his shock when you spoke. "I solved your riddles,Now let me go!!" There was a long silence before the Riddler descended into fits of laughter. "Did you really think I'd let you go?! No,no...you're still dying." You were stunned. "But you SAID-" "I lied,get over it,sweetie,now....let's see about frying your insides-" he was about to press a button when you used your leverage to kick him,the force of the launch breaking the chains,you tried to run away,but the bondage restricted you to crawling. You weren't fast enough and the riddler kicked you,knocking you over. "Alright,I'll admit,I wasn't expecting that,you know,you're pretty resourceful, crafty too...but so pathetic,do you think you'll be him? The Batman? Do you think you can replace him? You won't...you can't...you're just a poser..." He Yanks your face up by the neck collar. "...but you are fun...I wonder what else I could make you do....now.... we're going to play again...and if you struggle...I will tear your arms off and let rats gnaw at the wounds....okay,sweetie?..." Your body shook with terror and exhaustion from struggle. You nodded weakly. "Good pet...."

so, totally feel free to ignore this since i know you’re on a gravity falls kick, but seeing all the posts about puppy play/bondage/bdsm really got me thinking about a certain green man from gotham…

just. being the riddler’s pretty little puppy-brained obsession. no need to think or worry anymore, you just need to sit pretty with your collar in the section of his hideout just for the two of you (god forbid one of his henchmen come in- then they get a reminder why he’s considered to be such a terrifying rogue), and let the smartest man in gotham do allllll the thinking for you!

Even better if he asks for Jervis’ help in this endeavor <3 The Hatter really is so helpful, generously offering his expertise in engineering to craft a specialized collar just for you.

You really were too smart for your own good, dearest. That's exactly why Edward loved you so much, why you had originally caught his eye. Your beautiful mind was so captivating! Ah, and yet, you really were too in your own head. You shouldn't have to expend any unnecessary energy worrying your sweet little head about things The Riddler was more equipped to handle. He would take care of you and do all the hard work now.

Oh, you put up a good fight, of course! Edward hadn't expected any less from you. But the moment he managed to slip that collar around your neck, green and purple and lined with question marks and a dog tag that showed everyone who you belonged to, you relaxed so sweetly for him. He was going to become addicted to that dazed, obedient look in your eyes.

You were his sweet, silly little puppy. Obedient and unquestioning and without worry. He kept you locked up in a special section of his hideaway just for you, with a soft bed and toys and food bowls and anything your simple little doggy heart desired. He even had a workbench there with a dog bed underneath by his feet so he could work and spend quality time with you simultaneously.

Of course, he wouldn't keep you in such a state forever. Or, well, so he says. He did love your mind and how intelligent you were, regardless of if you believed him or not, but at the same time…

The power he had over you, the knowledge that he was in complete control over you and the ability to take care of you as you deserved to be… Well, let's just say that the amount of time he keeps you collared up and brainless seems to extend longer and longer after every break from it. It won't be long until he's certain that this is the only way to keep you completely safe, happy, and his, forever.

I've been delaying finishing a fic because I keep agonizing over ensuring the Riddler is in-character. As if I wasn't an amateur who is writing yandere x reader fanfiction. Also as if there haven't been published comics that make him even more out-of-character than I do

Dano!Riddler goes to kill his first person as Riddler, but Reader is there first and killed the dude. And they just sort of stare at each other while Reader is standing over the body.

Have you seen Arkham Knight VR? Riddler's self-aware in it! Could have some existential horror potential if you wrote headcanons or something for that version of him as a yandere >:-D (or just about self-aware Eddie from the mainline games...?)

as a ddlc fan, i love self aware game characters. and if anyone in arkham knight was gonna be sentient, itd be him. unfortunately, i havent seen AKVR, so this is just regular arkham knight

-edwards the most intelligent man in gotham, of course he noticed that his life was a game. and over time, he learned how to manipulate the game around him and "see" into the outside world

-the disc hes on was sold by the original owner, and now gets passed from person to person from secondhand game shops. the disc is always returned because somethings wrong with it. nobody puts two and two together and realizes they only start having game issues when they look up answers to the riddles

-then you buy the disc. edward is mildly interested in you, as he is with everyone who buys his game, but he assumes it wont last when you struggle with his riddles. whatever, at least he can enjoy messing around with your game

-but then you dont look anything up. he watches you intently, he even hacks onto your phone to check if youve been searching answers, and youre all clear. sure, you struggle at some of his puzzles (who doesnt?), but you never cave and look up how to solve it, no matter how long it takes you

-now that hes poking around on your phone, he sees that youre kind of a shut in. you dont have many contacts, and the one social media you have is tumblr. but it looks like you fixate on him a lot, almost to an unhealthy degree. its flattering- of course someone as excellent as him deserves sycophants! and he especially deserves one as devoted as you! youre smart, and determined, and oh lord, hes in love

-you have things to do during the day, you cant spend all your time with him on the disc, so he listens in on you from your phone. theres not much to do when youre not playing the game, so its his favorite way to pass the time. when you get home and start playing, he tries to interest you in his sidequest over everything else. he even keeps an eye on you as you sleep! he has to make sure youre safe, after all

-when youre not playing, he focuses on finding a way out to you (or bringing you in to him). he needs to be able to hold you, to keep you safe himself, and if he has to drag you kicking and screaming into the game with him, he will. not that he really knows how to do that, but he'll figure out something

-on your end, you dont notice anything at first. maybe his lines when you play are a little... flirtier? but other than that, the game is fun. you feel particularly drawn to the riddler sidequest, hes your favorite character after all. then, you notice that his lines are strangely specified to you, making references to your interests and personal life. maybe its just reading your console? yeah, a fun little meta thing!

-but then it gets concerning. he calls you by name. not the name on your console, your real name. hes talking like he knows you as a person. hes saying how much he needs you, how much he adores your dedication to his riddles, your dedication to him. you decide this is too weird, you have to return the game. so you go to take it out, and-

-you wake up in what looks like the abandoned orphanage from arkham knight. you try to move, but you feel arms squeeze you tight

-"there you are, my dear player. we're going to have so much fun together"
