⌨ to learn about my character’s educationYuuki’s education, like many families in Johto, started from within the family. With his father busy in Hoenn most of the time, his mother was in charge of teaching little Yuuki the types of pokémon, and also how to read and write – but eventually, this task was handed over to the friendly caregivers at a daycare centre in Goldenrod, and subsequently the little homeschooling circle that was available to children of employees of the association his mother worked at.
He isn’t the smartest or the most gifted academically, but what is strong in him is a desire for self-improvement in various aspects. It’ll come to see him through many difficulties that he faces in a more controlled academic environment.
Yuuki’s schooling came to an abrupt halt when he moved to Hoenn, but that didn’t stop him from reading whatever he could find in the pokécentres. (Alas, they were mostly … magazines and pamphlets about things like contests and pokémon grooming, none of which particularly interested him.)
The lull would have continued throughout his stay in Mt Pyre, but one day, Yuuki took an interest in what the old lady was doing – she was copying scriptures to be burnt as offerings. From there, he learnt a good amount of archaic Japanese (and a handful of ancient? traditional? Chinese characters). But whatever he learnt from the scripts do not come close in value as to what he was taught in Mt Pyre – the understanding of the self, and how it comes in conflict with the world.
Today, Yuuki is enrolled in university, and is majoring in forensic science. He also learns a whole lot from hands-on experience at Devon R&D and completed errands in foreign regions. He’s come a long way, and is aware that the path of learning winds and stretches for miles before him.
(A bonus thing about his English education can be found here!)
Is yuuki sensitive to the cold at all?
ask anything about the character!
Is Yuuki sensitive to the cold at all?
Yuuki is a fairly adaptable person!
Having lived in a tropical region like Hoenn for the latter half of his life now, one would expect him to be acclimatised to a warmer climate. However, a good seven-or-so years spent atop Mt Pyre has gotten Yuuki used to the cold.
The early half of his life was spent in Johto, which is definitely colder than Hoenn. He didn’t face problems there. Even during early spring, Yuuki could be found happily playing tag with his friends at daycare.
Due to this, Yuuki is alright with colder areas in general, but these aren’t usually found in Hoenn. (His idea of a good retreat is somewhere in a mountainous, or valley resort.) He’s perfectly fine with just a jacket during Hoenn winters, and can go without one during spring.
Sinnoh, however, is a completely different beast. He’s going to stay bundled up there even during fall. Unovan winters will most likely see the same behaviour, but as Devon R&D is unlikely to send its mules interns to suffer climate-based torture, the facts remain unknown.
By the way, Yuuki doesn’t have air-conditioning in his rented unit. For one, it’s too expensive to maintain and pay for. Secondly, if it’s too warm to stay in during summer, he’ll just sleep over in his university’s library or his office’s rest area.

He’d finally gotten his application for a student exchange approved. A month away from Devon (he tried his best not to think about all the work waiting for him when he got back) -- because here he was, back in Goldenrod of Johto, before the great gates of its university. He’d heard good things about their medical faculty -- and while Yuuki didn’t have much to do with medicine, he was majoring in forensics, and they shared some classes, it seemed.
... but he did not recall ordering a coffee, or bagels. In fact, he was here, waiting for his student guide to come show him around campus.
“Uh. I’m waiting for someone, not coffee.”
