More and more airlines eliminating pesky check-in process
IN a sign that traditional airline check-in could become a thing of the past, low-cost United States airline JetBlue has become the latest carrier to eliminate the process altogether.
After Air France, Finnair, Brussels Airlines, ANA All Nippon Airway and Lufthansa, JetBlue has also introduced automatic check-in, eliminating the need to check-in online 24 hours before their flight.
It’s a move which acknowledges that the age-old practice of checking-in for flights has become old-fashioned and unnecessary in today’s technoworld.
Instead, customers will receive an email alert 24 hours before their scheduled flight along with either a printable boarding pass or a paperless mobile boarding pass for those who’ve downloaded their JetBlue mobile app.
In an interview with aviation trade site Future Travel Experience, JetBlue’s senior vice-president Eash Sundaram said the check-in process had become an antiquated and unnecessary step in the flying experience today.
“You don’t check-in when you go to a movie theatre, you don’t check-in when you go to a soccer game. Why do you have to check-in (when you fly)?
“The only reason you had to check-in was because the airlines didn’t know whether you were going to show up or not in the 1960s.”
The 24-hour email alert will also notify passengers of any schedule changes.

Flying to the US with Duty Free
So, you were having a great time flying around Europe, not having to take your shoes off at security checkpoints anymore, not having to take out all your laptops and crap into individual bins, and not even afraid of being tackled by TSA because you have a bottle of water in your carry-on... ahhh... the land of the free! Wait a minute...
Yeah. So, Europe is cool. Their liquor is awesome! They have stuff there that we're not allowed to have here, because we're all a bunch of bumbling retards. Now you're on your way back home, and you stop off at the Duty Free to grab a couple of liters of your favorite booze. They tell you, "you're only allowed 2 liters", so of course... you buy two =)
You board your plane, and a nice staff worker is there to hand your your lovelies, all nicely sealed up, gift-wrapped if you will, for your journey home.
You land in JFK, but you don't live in New York. You live in Detroit, so this is just a connection for you. Now you need to go on a domestic flight to get home. Don't worry though, because your bags that you checked are automatically sent to the next aircraft for you. All you need to do is grab your carry-ons and head to the domestic terminal, head through security again and get on your next flight...
"You can't bring this through!"
Yeah... this is where the suck happens.
Because you have a transfer back states-side, you have to change terminals, and therefore go back through security. Guess what won't make it through, all the wonderful wonderful liquid in containers over 4oz! Yep. Anything you bought that is in liquid form from the Duty Free won't be allowed. All your liquor, perfume... anything liquid! Spent $500 on the crap? Tough shit. You have to check it. Oh, you don't have time? Or, perhaps, you would be charged $150 to check another bag? Or maybe you don't even have a bag to check and it's just some bottles in a bag. How the hell do you check this? All the luggage stores are on the other side of the security checkpoint even if you wanted to buy another suitcase. Guess what homey...
You have to trash all your expensive Duty Free purchases!
Talk about total bullshit!
But yeah. I've had this happen two me twice. The second time I was coming back from Amsterdam, so I wasn't in the proper "mindset", if you will, at the time of purchase.
So BE WARNED! If you have a connection in the states, don't buy Duty Free liquids unless you have a plan at your layover, because the TSA will confiscate it and have a nice party at your expense!
What happens to all the stuff they confiscate anyway? Anyone actually know? Hmmm....
