Gems are viruses and you can’t change my mind
Alright, the possibilities I can think of for the offspring of a gem human hybrid are:
They can’t have children with humans
They can have human children with humans
They can have human children with humans, but the children may inherit some gem traits even so (hair color, powers, idk some minor stuff)
They can have human children with humans (following either #2 or #3) and can have 1 (one) gem human hybrid child if they give up their gem (they may or may not survive doing so), but only if they are the parent who gets pregnant
They can have human children with humans (following either #2 or #3) and can have 1 (one) gem human hybrid child if they give up their gem (they may or may not survive doing so), independently if they are the parent who gets pregnant or not
They can have human children with humans and also have gem human hybrid children that magically have their own separate gems (??)
I think #2 or #4 are the most likely ones, but I kinda like all of them for different reasons. I’m not even thinking of these because of Steven’s and Connie’s potential future children, this is mostly for my OCs (one day I will make up my mind and write a fic set two generations or more in the future you will all see it)
So my old (?) hc for gem origins was that the first gems including but not limited to the Diamonds (or at least WD) just appeared from the ground without purpose and without knowing a lot about themselves and stuff (and this is the basis for the natural gems in the CADR fic) and they have this sort of sixth sense to know if there is a living gem nearby that they use to detect gems about to be formed, so the first gems went on a quest to find others like them and then later to make others like them because they just have this irrational need inside of them. One of the things in this hc is that gems didn’t only naturally form on Homeworld
I am telling all of this just to share my derivated hc about Pearls’ organic origins
So there was this group of gems on an alien planet near the sea who were attacked by a giant mollusk and during the fight they just feel that there is a living gem trapped inside the thing, gross, so they free her and yeah that’s the first Pearl
Good times
Crack theory about the Pink Diamond shaped bubbled gem in the bubble room: that’s a Rose Quartz. Newer generations are more accurate
You guys finally unlocked my 2016 gemkind origins fic in a short version
So, at the start, (rough, or naturals as I call them in CADR) gems popped out the ground randomly on Homeworld. They have an instinct to find other gems and that includes gems still not fully formed. They want to help the fully formed gems that for one reason or another didn’t leave the ground.
All of gemkind’s technologic advances are made to make it possible to find the still not formed gems, calculate how much time incubating they need, and know when they can be safely removed from the ground. As technology improves, a greater number of gem emerges, and gems start forming bonds with others that are the same type as them. Things start running smoothly and gems have free time to explore everything else they want to explore.
Then Homeworld is almost running out of gems and there is a collective depression because gems feel like they don’t have a purpose anymore and life is empty. There is violence and chaos until the Diamonds, who were no big deal yet, end it. They had done a thing that made them stronger and more flawless than they were: they polished and cut their own gems, removing impurities and so. They became leaders of Homeworld, and they want to cut and polish other gems, but a formed gem would get hurt by the procedure (just the Diamonds manage to do it formed). They can, however, do it to incubating gems in a certain time frame before they emerge. Also they find out how to make gems, and those fabricated gems are perfect, identical to any other of her type, have a pre set purpose. The Diamonds go to space, and it is clear they like their fabricated gems more
The way they say “organic life” always makes me wonder, are there other forms of inorganic life? What would they even be? Gem plants? Gem lizards? Crystal shrimp? Metals? Something completely different?
Because of this quarantine I have been listening to a lot of biology classes here at home, so maybe I have a source of inspiration for writing this sort of stuff...
