I was tagged by @ailurophile-thoughts to post 6 random things about myself, so here goes! I tag @this-goes-on , @cantfighttheinevitable , @becomingwhatideserve , and anyone else who sees this and feels like doing it ☺️
I LOVE Terry Pratchett and I’ve read every single one of his Discworld books once, and my favorites god knows how many times.
I’m vegetarian because I was raised that way, but I feel guilty about calling myself vegetarian because I haven’t put enough thought into the ethical aspect of it to “earn” it, if that makes sense.
When I was in high school and earlier, 90% of my closest friends were of the same ethnicity (South Asian) as me, but since college I’ve made almost no new friends with this background. Now I live in an area which is much whiter and it’s weird to me to realize that it doesn’t feel that weird.
It’s a guilty pleasure, but I watched and rewatched FRIENDS to relax in college so much that I practically have it memorized.
I had wanted to major in physics since high school, but I discovered part of the way through college that I actually preferred math. Unfortunately, between being far along enough in the physics major and struggling with mental health stuff, I ultimately just finished the physics degree I had started. Meanwhile, programming gradually grew on me even though I despised it when I was introduced to it, and because it’s so practical it’s actually the area where I work now. That isn’t particularly interesting, but what is interesting IMO is that my dad went through the EXACT same path (physics to math to programming-ish), albeit over a longer period of time and with more degrees…
Both my parents have PhDs, so I had always assumed that I would go to grad school. Then college was a disaster and I ended up in the workforce, but even though my job would be considered “good” by most people, it still feels like failure. Many people end up in grad school because they don’t want to handle the “real world”; I feel like I ended up in the real world because I couldn’t handle education.
