This week's #aimtrue challenge w/ the teacher I would follow into battle @kathrynbudig is all about learning to love your body. This is the thing- I bet it seems like I've always been confident about my body. Um...bitch, please. I wish I had felt this way about my body when I was younger. But I owe my self-confidence to the people who valiantly tried to strip it away. The boys at my middle school who left me in tears on a regular basis. All of the traditionally beautiful cheerleaders who stuck up their noses at my jiggly fat rolls and clumsy "stunts". The sales clerks who encouraged me to wear ugly, baggy clothing because they were afraid of what my exposed fatty body would do to the world. These people were afraid of me- my body challenged their reality and it made them uncomfortable. But that's pretty damn powerful, isn't it? My body is a weapon- it's an act of defiance against a society that's hell bent on churning out a generation of carbon copies. I'm not a carbon copy- I'm an original piece of artwork. And I own my body. It doesn't belong to anyone else.
