Sound artist and DJ Ain Bailey presents a series of new works for Version, the first onsite exhibition at Wysing Arts Centre of 2021. Installed in three parts across Wysing’s site, the title pays tribute to the ‘version’ of a vocal track. Throughout the exhibition, Bailey brings together sound and sculpture as means to expand on ideas and techniques of ‘sonic biography’, a generative methodology of sound exploration that the artist has finessed over the years. Presented with the opportunity to occupy several spaces across the site, Bailey has produced a series of works that reflect on the artist’s Jamaican heritage, albeit from the position of someone who has not yet visited the island.

Pamela Z will not be performing

Disappointed that Pamela Z is unable to perform this evening but still going to head down and experience some sound.  Might be the perfect way to reflect on the day.  Meeting with Dr Bunn really helpful and grounding need to focus and understand what I want to concentrate on.  Wide subject can easily become wishy washy.  Also appreciated having it outdoors instead of in a room. 

Main points of todays meeting.

I am looking at a huge area needs to be narrowed down.

How will I define my boundaries e.g. focusing on the UK

Methodology, Grounded Theory - will help develop my themes and purpose

What do I want my end product to be - pretty sure I would like to make a recommendation

What is the relevance of my questioning

So my question is exploring diversity within the archival profession

What data is out there already?

What possible difficulties will there be accessing data?

How do we define diversity?

ARA are looking at disability? So is this could help justify or evidence for exploring the aspect of diversity

What are the barriers, and why can the factors be defined.

Who do I have access to?

What are the benefits of a diverse profession?

Are there lessons to be learnt in other professions that have historically lacked diversity  that have improved improved over time through concerted effort.

After thought - I would like to move beyond the chicken and the egg.  I don't want there to be the complacency that has existed so long or that I have experienced in feminism.  We need to maybe find quick wins.
